I quite like LRMs right now.
They do a decent ammount of damage, they lock on, they have enormous range.... they are definitely quite useful.
BUT, if you are fast enough and/or have cover nearby and/or tons of ams for you and your friends and/or are just an awesome pilot you can get around being destroyed by LRMs.

as a commando pilot i always chosse the speed and cover options ;)

You just can't mindlessly kill with LRMs. People think that, and they think that the proper means to that end is to put 1000 missiles in the air. Both are wrong.

I carry a total of 540 missiles into any given match - a whopping 18 full salvos with my two LRM15s. I usually have ammo left over. Picking your target and choosing your shots are the keys to making LRMs effective. And sure, LRMs have guidance to them, which may make them seem 'mindless', but don't forget that at long range I have a full 3-5 seconds before my shot hits target. That's a lot of time for someone to move (or die) making my volley a waste. If anything, I need to think *more* about my shots, because I don't want to waste my ammo blindly firing.

Anyway, he let loose both his LRM launchers but he was partially behind a crane so it soaked up almost all of one side of the launchers. He stood there and got off 3 launches before I melted his noggin' (had an ER LL and reg PPC). My damage readout showed yellow around upper half of my mech like barely touching gold color; so I guess maybe 5-10% damage on each of the armor locations? Was not expecting so little from sitting still myself with no AMS.

So I trotted down the hill and started into the street with the low buildings on one side and I think the tankers (or something close to their height) on the other side. LRM hunchie jogs out of their base and fires from other end of the street. Can't remember why I did, but I think something blocked me or I was too far away to get to an adjacent street infront of me for cover.

I went into reverse and curved behind some cover, taking up two flights from the hunchie. I looked again at my damage readout: was in the orange-red on my torsos!

I can't remember if that hunchie was bone stock or not, but shesh he had to be emptying at least a LRM 20 at me! You know, the kind of "OUCH!" you would expect when a cloud of missles come at you! (and no they were not SRMs!)

I won't say LRM's are "overpowered" or "nerfed", but I definitely will say that something hinky is going on with their damage registering!

This is the other thing with LRMs - a single volley from my Cat means anywhere from 1-30 missiles may hit you. That's a very wide damage spread.

Take the first Cat - he was probably all "OMG my LRMs are so weak!" when the fact is he was launching 2/3rds of them into terrain. And then there's the Hunch - if he had an Artemis'd LRM 20, and he hit you with 15-20 of those missiles, that is a lot of damage, even for an Atlas.

Yeah. The LRM's need a small bump. Somewhere between what they were before the last overpowered patch and now. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for the artemis. Does not "feel" like the tech is working.

As an 'ex' boater, seen all of the patches, the last two were two extremes of terrible. First overpowered, mostly due to the homing, angles and hit locations, and then swinging wildly to underpowered like they were 4 months ago with getting the spread right but dropping the damage also. From past examples, this will probably mean that they will stay like this for another few months, get FAR worse when ECM kicks in and then perhaps be brought back to a point of usefulness again. Generally I play mechs to whatever the 'best bang for buck' is, and currently LRM's are out of the equation, they're simply not good enough compared to many other loadouts. Being swarmed by 5 mechs moving over 90km/h isn't much fun either. Yes you 'can' use them, they're just not a serious build right now, though better than using flammers or Machineguns.

I think LRMs are fine as they are. In a brawler I do on average say 300 damage. (I run PUGs). But in a LRM boat like a Kitty or Atlas i run 500+ damage consistently. Now thats down from 900-1000 damage prepatch. LRMs can still be used as a primary weapon, but the days of sitting out alone on the lake and raining 5 click death to everyone is gone. Good riddance.
