Even when im sad that most people vote 'No', i like the idea of having it.

Just let people have the option to play like this, i don't see the big problem.

Stop trolling.

But in case you aren't trolling: If you cannot see how it provides an unfair advantage by now, after 100's of explanations in this thread among others, may god have mercy on your soul.

How about polls of 5 times that 500 and climbing? The current poll is 2300+ "No" votes out of 2544 votes total.

Hogwash. Piranha is using "new user experience" as a smokescreen. The answer to people not understanding your game is tutorials and training.

The idea that a third-person camera will help the inept pilot their mech is akin to training seriously injured people relearning how to walk by having a camera crew follow them 24/7 rather than giving them physical therapy. There's something else going on here, and "new user experience" is the obfuscation used to hide whatever the real goal is.

THIS. Right here.

A fair amount of the outcry here is people calling them on that. Youre gonna spend the time to develop a third person mode then split the multiplayer community up for the sake of new player retention? Meanwhile new players are still not going to have a solid tutorial to show them the ropes.

I think the devs think (as comedian Lewis Black said) "It's as if they believed that we fell asleep on a nuclear reactor, and our brains had melted, ...and we are now nothing more than meat with eyes."

Please spend your dev-time on something that actually is beneficial to the game. Like light-mech collisions.

I played either view in MW4:Mercs and will play both if it becomes available in MWO. But, even though there are 2000+ votes for no, that isn't even 1% of the registered members. Die-hard BT fans I would expect are very vocal and would take the time to vote for a MW game they are passionate about...but what of the other 99%? That is a vast market that I'm sure PGI would like to tap into. I guess you could make an argument that 90% of the community doesn't want 1st Person, but that certainly doesn't mean that everyone wants 1st Person only. Just the ones that are vocal and visit the forums enough to notice a certain voting thread...

Solution? If you want 3rd person, go play Mech Commander.

Will you be determined who did you do this game for, for the persons of ripe years? If yes, forget about a kind from 3 persons. If for schoolboys, please, but know you will lose the concrete amount of people. And able to be quietly closed.

I would strongly support a Mech viewing option, full 360, 3rd person view... In the MECHLAB. We can oogle there. Then give us a PVE training mission with 3rd person.

I still like the UAV option, but only if balanced and I can not really speak to the canon-ness of such a thing.

Alternately, Over the shoulder camera system, downside is you can get it shot off easily and it costs you repairs, tonnage and a pilot skill.

Not shooting you down Alois... but the sad thing about that poll?? Last count (just looked) is 2330 voted NO out of 2546 total votes... a good 91.5% of those voting are NOT in favour of 3rd Person view...

BUT... out of the total number of registered users (last count shows 400,173) that is only .58%... so be generous and round up... so just over 1/2% of the total registered users have voted against it...

:)

If you want to make a training mission that has 3rd person view that's fine, otherwise no. It's no fun in combat.

I don't even want them to waste time on it for training missions. I would rather that they put in a full screen mech lab that allows for 360 degree view of the mech, but as soon as you climb into it, you are IN it. Giving people a 3rd person view for a tutorial will make it that much harder to get them off of it for the "real" game.

You don't learn how to ride a bike by sitting in a chair. You have to do what you trying to learn.

Big No from me. Viewing your mech in 3rd person is great but not in battle at all. Enough justifcation has been provided in this thread already. Keep up the great work guys and girls.

You've got a vocal few thumping their chests and demanding 1st person view only. Most responders are the same 10-20 people who feel strongly enough about it to threaten and cajole to get their way or the highway.

Yep those same folks also must have created 100 accounts a piece and voted in that poll. I say ignore the forums, actually just shut them down if there's no useful feedback here.

I would personally say no simply because it would allow you to see more of the play field, more of the terrain off in the distance. By having a hud that has items on it and obstacles you have to actually pay closer attention to what your doing as opposed to being able to see everything.

1: No shootdowns on me, I was solely going after the "less than 500" bit that was beyond invalid when it was posted.

2: It is indeed a small percentage of the total players registered, but

3: The percentage opposed is an even more miniscule portion. :)

Like other people have said, Mechwarrior is a niche game with hardcore fans already built in. Trying to compete with every other third person shooter out there, well, I don't know. Maybe a Mech themed WoT would be popular. But I think it's going to be the same way that WoW clones end up failing -- people who like that gameplay are already invested in the other game, and aren't going to leave.

I'm here because the gameplay is different, and I like it that way. I know I'm in a minority of the total gaming population, but I do have money, and I like to spend it on projects I like. If we go third person, I know I'll go back to waiting for a "good" mechwarrior game to spend my money on.

To go further (I already posted the above in another thread, before I saw this official one), I'd be fine with a third person view for playback and such. And as for the canon of a three sixty view, that is valid, but it really is for the purpose of not having to have over-elaborate fog of war and view arc rules in the boardgame (which is third person from necessity). We are not limited to that here, and we can actually have the first person mech experience we've always wanted.

And besides, we do have a three sixty radar, so if you pay attention to that you can keep up with mechs behind you.

If you honestly think that there are 500,000 people actually playing the game, you're delusional.

I would wager that most of the NO voters in that poll are actually people who play the game.

Seriously? Don't put in 3rd person. It breaks immersion and if you decide not to do it you are losing a tactical advantage over other players who do! This is supposed to be a simulator type FPS, if I wanted something else with mechs I'd go play hawken. I don't want people to know I'm behind them before I line up that shot on their back. I snuck up on them! similarly if I'm on their sides or on the other side of a hill.

Please PGI, don't do it! what are you thinking?!

Edit- separating your player base seems awful as well...
