Do not forget to change the armor layout, it has ridiculous amounts of rear armor on the CT. Bring it up to 70-75 on the front.

comes down to how you like to play and what you want in your arsenal of mechs. this sounds odd but you must understand the mechs hard points only allows it to get up to about ~40-65 damage (weak sauce for an assault). not a big fan of the xl because of the size of the awesome and i like second chances to be annoying. anyway this is my build i find it fun and effective.
std320
ams
case (optional)
~19 DHS (depending on build)
right arm: LPL or ERPPC
LT/RT: medium laser
head: medium laser
CT: 2 ssrm or 2 srm4
left arm: ssrm or srm4
3 tons of ammo
(please note srm come out 2 at a time so there is no need for artimus, you can pretty much hit all missiles dead on target.)
40-55damage. less damage but more spam and you can out flank other torso shooters.
your strengths is close quarters combat even with erppc. controlling your speed is key! because the momentum is so great. for the most part awesome are not stand and deliver attack style, you must hit and run.
have fun! hope you try my build out.
