I like the first build there, the damage isn't as high as the others but your gonna be doing more direct damage rather than spreading the damage out over the enemy. The Cataphract is going to be a fun Mech to pilot I think.

I'd rather slap in a xl 325, to take advantage of 3 criticals available because I can stuff 1 further DHS within the engine.

Atm I'm wondering on a 2xLLas (1 in each arm) 2xMlas (side torsos), gauss and Endo on 1X/3D. 43 Alpha, not much, but extreme pinpoint focused damage.. I was running a similar config in my founder atlas with 300 std, but this weights 30 tons less and moves at 75 km/h :(

xl engine and then half front and half back armor on side torso and no armor at all in legs? with all respect.. that thing shouldnt be called tank but something like "one shot xp pinata" or so..

if you need that much back armor you should maybe try to not run from the enemy all the time x_X

I chose the second option, armor is better allocated on the torsos (as Vultue2k mentioned), and the weapons mix gives more options for various types of fighting. Options 1 and 3 are dependent on the right torso, both for the XL engine and the weapons in the RT / RA.

I'd be more interested in a zombie-ish standard engine model, simply to avoid a side torso kill.

XL engines are a TERRIBLE idea in mechs greater than 65 tons. it creates a huge weakness in the mech and essentially negates most of your armor. other than that.. interesting builds

Well it depends on the hitboxes. On any mech that's shaped like the dragon, It wouldn't be a problem. But the Cataphract doesn't look like XL engines are a good idea.

I certainly won't run one in my Cataphracts.

CTF-3D? *licks* I'd like to kill one of those things. It's gotta be a delicious tears from the would-be Gaussboat CTF-3D.

Destroy one of its torso, problem solved.

Yup, I personally wanna go up against Gaussboat with a customized CTF-1X. Oppa House Liao-style~!

From what the concept art depicts, the cataphract will have a very narrow LT/RT when shooting it from the front, much like the catapult. If that is the case, then you shouldn't have any issues with XL engine survivability.

We won't know for sure until the patch goes live and several matches are played.

Yeah - we don't know for sure till the patch goes live. But - I don't see where the artwork shows similarity with the catapult. For me the hitzones look like this - unless I'm missing something.
