My atlas is feeling really space limited right now.

What do you guys think about DHS vs SHS on an Atlas (Brawler build).

From your numbers...
DHS:
9*1.4 = 12.6 (assuming the DHS still operates at the 1.4 rates)
9*3crit = 27crit

SHS
12.6 -> 13SHS
13*1crit = 13crit

But since an Atlas engine can't go that low i assume you meant 9 in engine, 2externa. so...
2*1.4=2.8
2*3crit= 6crit

2.8 ->3SHS
3*1crit=3crit

Math.

Wait, if he has 11 DHS, 9 engine and 2 external, than 11*1.4=15.4 and 2*3 crit = 6 crit. For equivalent SHS 15.4 - (1*9 engine) = 6 external, which take up 6 tons and 6 crits. So to switch to SHS and keep the same heat dissipation, he would lose four tons of weight, 0.4 heat and not free up any crits.

^ what he said. forgot to account for the engine HS.
15.4-9=6.4. so you need actually 7 SHS to match or surpass your current setup. Might be worse if the engine internal HS are rated at 2(instead of 1.4) don't remember if they changed that or not...

So, math aside, keep the DHS?

If the engine heat sinks are 2.0 then it's almost never worthwhile to go SHS. If you need at least 20 heat sink equivalent then DHS saves you 10 tons by putting 10 in the engine working as 20.
