It's basic and nice like an old unreal '99 level. It has great visuals, and I can play without using enhanced imaging. No fog, no grain, no nothing. It's the facing worlds of MWO.

Can we get more like this?

I do enjoy it quite a lot. I now grimace a little when I get regular Frozen.

EDIT: And +1 for the UT Facing worlds reference

This too! Smooth 60FPS for me where forest is down at the low 30s.

Performance boosts aside, it's their best looking map followed closely by Snow Forest. Both are much more crisp than any of the other levels.

Seriously.

River City Night is my favorite map by far. Cutting out all the fog, dust, and filtered crap really lets the textures and models shine on their own.

Snow Forest was good but this is great stuff. Environmental effects are way cool but not when they're the default; sometimes battles happen and there isn't a thousand years of industrial haze or the worst snowstorm the planet has ever had. The clarity is a really nice change and shows off the map detail way better; you get a better sense of the place and also how bad the blizzard on the regular map really is. Also the sky kicks burros.

If they'd done this map first I think we'd have gone OMG BLIZZARD NICE WEATHER FX DUDES when regular Frozen came into play. Looking forward to the upcoming Desert if this map is any indication, plus larger.

+2.

Sad thing is, in 2K4 somebody built a VCTF map called FacingAss, and it was overplayed to f/k. :D
You've never seen hideous until you've seen a cube-room with BSP-modelled bum-cheeks poking out of the walls.

To the point I have the soundtrack playing for MWO.

I'd been meaning to do this as well, but I had trouble finding quality versions.

No brown filter on it, it really is a pretty map. I can see the mechs instead of a blob in the distance.

At first glance I thought it was too bright for a night map.... But looking up in the sky seeing that faint white light I think of it as a cold (nearly) lifeless planet orbiting around a star that is much cooler and whiter than Sol where our "pale blue dot" Terra is. I really like all the maps (except the "forest maps" don't really get me excited). However until the night map dropped yesterday my biggest complaint is that the maps don't seem to use much imagination of what incredible diversity must exist even on other inhabitable planets that occupy the tiny little spot humankind calls the Inner Sphere.

I know the idea habitable planets around Betelgeuse and Aldebaran in the 31st century is a bit of a stretch (they might have gone supernova yesterday but we won’t find out 65 years later for Aldebaran and a massive 600 or so years for Betelgeuse) but the "imagination" for the sky in these maps has not really done it for me. I hope PGI does a Betelgeuse or Aldebaran type map. A massive orange/red star in the sky overlooking a scorched battlefield that mankind feels compelled to fight over.

Back in August I read "Lethal Heritage" and Stackpole's descriptions of The Rock where the first recorded contact with the Clans occurred drove my imagination wild for what that might mean in MWO terms. Imagine a cold lifeless rock with no oxygen. Truly alien rock formations dot the landscape. The gravity is nowhere near what we experience here on Terra or "Forest Colony" (wherever that is)... Small clusters of floating debris/asteroids hang in orbit around the planet.

That being said the concept art for "Desert" looks very promising. I was kinda thinking Desert meant something more generic like the Eaton contracts in MW4: Mercs. But what they are showing looks awesome.
