I'm willing to take some criticism, but I believe that this game has only one true brawler mech with jump jets, the cataphract 3D model. This can well be the deadly Cat K2 brawler now with jump jets. I don't consider any other catapult builds other than K2 to be brawling mechs, nor any lights with JJ's. Neither K2 nor any other Cataphract build (including hero mech) has jump jets. Now that I'm done stating the obvious, I'd like some feedback from players that pilot the 3D or have faced the 3D in brawl matches. Does the addition of jump jets to a reasonably fast build of this mech make it uniquely potent in the game? How fast can the mech be built to go with room for JJ's and with K2 style stopping/killing power?

Jump jets certainly make turning faster and easier, just like in TT.
It's also nice to be able to get over bumps and ridges that can't normally be climbed.
Currently you only need 1 jump jet, so it's only a 1ton and 1crit investment. Easily added for a nice boost to mobility.

Btw it'd say that catapults C1 and C4 can totally be fit for brawling. The A1 is an abomination though.

I wouldn't call it uniquely potent- 4x mlas 2xSM6 C1 and 2x mlas 4xSRM6 C4 are both jump jetting brawlers. That being said, I havent' encountered many CTF-3Ds making good use of their jump jets

Honestly I dont consider either of those mechs to be particularly good at brawling. They're both way too easy to core out because of their huge center torsos.

XL on a brawler is not a good idea.

As much as I don't like playing against them, 6x streak A1s *are* one of the best brawlers in the game right now. They have a combination of consistent firepower, speed, mobility and durability that is hard to beat, with only one real weakness: they are fairly easily disarmed.

However, the one I'm *really* scared of is 4xstreak, 2x SRM6. I played that thing back in close beta and it was brutal.

Can't fit double AC20 on the phract, so there's that.

And I love my JJ's with heavy ballistics :D

XL on a brawler has it's place.
Not on a hunch G H J or P, and not on an Atlas.
Cataphract and Catapult however, have relatively small side torsos when viewed head on.
Try out any given mech first with a standard, if you find yourself loosing torsos on a frequent basis don't XL, however if you aren't then you might as well XL it.

My -2X almost always dies to CT damage anyways, so with an XL I get nearly 85 kph. The ability to engage and disengage increases my survivability more than the vulnerable side torso decreases it.

As a 3D pilot i can confirm, the jumpjets on that mech are damn useful in brawling. I'm running a Quad LL build with 325 xl (so not a brawler by default but it happens) and many times i've used JJs to escape or disorient players, charging them with the 80km/h speed and when they turn towards me jumping above them is my favourite. :D

dont brawl with the 3d

you need to play mw4 style with it

pop up shot your alpha drop back down

2 large lasers (in arms)
1 gauus (in arm as well so you dont have to manage to reticules)
2 med lasers (in torso for presky lights

Pop up put to large lasers and a gauss shot on someone... fall back down

rinse repeat until bad guys are hurting or dead

You don't think that a C4 with pulse lasers and SRM 6's is an effective brawler?

hmmm.....

but Yes, I too use Jumpjets on my Brawling Cataphract
