I'm trying to download the client for the first time in the open beta and when I use the updater I get that it is "Unable to connect to the remote server". I'm a coder myself so I quickly found the log file. This is all it says:

when visiting http://patcher.mwome...cked_status.txt I get "open" so it appears to find the file through http just fine. These types of files are typically just used as flags for the internal pateher functions anyway.

Next I thought I could be blocking it via routing so I put myself in my DMZ to test. Still could not connect. Not a port forwarding issue. Are canadian IP's blocked for the open beta? I know people who where in the closed beta can still play. If this is preventing new players fromm downloading, that might be why people are wondering if there are any new player.

Try using various remote support services such as logmeinrescue, gosupportnow, GoToMyPC, etc. and check whether you are able to connect to your required remote server.
