1. Other than taking out the cockpit what is the best way to take out an enemy mech and get the highest salvage bonus?

2. Again other than taking out the driver what is the kill switch? I never played TT, played a lot of the early pc games but it's been a long time and play Living Legends. I understand on LL you take out the armor and damgage the internals to destroy the mech so in general I would go for a side torso and in best case senario I would leave all armor green except for left or right torso. In MWO I'm assuming it's the same concept but what exactly stops the mech?

A detailed answer to your question lies here:
http://mwomercs.com/...e-field-manual/

and read the section "Destroying Battlemechs".

Once you are familiar with the different ways, then you must decide which method to use based on the situation.
Does the enemy mech already have a destroyed LT? If so then you should aim for that. Is the mech's rear armor gone? If so, then you may want to circle around and aim for their back.

Thanks, I had scanned that before but didn't notice, I'll read it a little closer now, looks more useful than I first though, that said I didn't notice anything about salvage, maybe I missed it, I tend to do that.

On the matter of the salvage bonus, the way to make the most money is to leg 'em or headshot 'em and hope they don't have ammo in their legs or head. The salvage bonus is based on the C-Bill value of whatever ISN'T destroyed after the 'Mech stops shooting, so you want to preserve their engine, especially if they've got an expensive XL engine.

I think that taking out both legs should leave the rest in pretty good condition (though I've never tested it). Center torso kills destroy the engine (one of the most expensive parts), and side torsos will only kill mechs with XL engines (destroying the engine and possibly some big weapons).

Head shots are by far the best for salvage.

If (and only if) you're a good enough shot to reliably pop the head without hitting the CT. One advantage of the legs is that they're really easy to hit. Also, there's SOOO many people who drop leg armor levels down to 1/2 or less of default levels.

So say for instance I've got a mech with a standard engine in front of me with a pilot that's asleep, if i fire on ONE of the side torsos and completly destroy that section I will still have to move to the head/ct to finish the job?

Just to clarify my reasons, I've got about 10 hours in the game, but I'm trying to find out how I can kill more efficiently.

If a mech has a standard engine, they will not be destroyed due to a side torso destruction. If they have a standard engine, it's head, CT, or both legs. That's it.
