I have waited many days before posting this , just observing and noticing that not just me but other teammates attack on Ravens (exceeds even Jenner netcode Survivability) where they are not moving fast but take Alpha after Alpha of massive damage and won't go down even more than Atlases take IMO to bring down.

I waited this time to make sure it wasn't just random occurances and taking note of other players attacks on the same mech(That I now call "CIRCLE OF FUTILITY instead of CIRCLE OF DEATH") that the results of immunity of damage are not just my imagination.

Has Anyone noticed this ECM only does so much when you are up close ,So I don't thik its that when you are Point Blank range?

Quite often it's the netcode causing the issue. It's hard to escape the Circle of Death.

However, I have spectated several matches where people were shooting behind the light circling, and never got a single hit. Aim ahead of them, not behind.

I Played in an Trial Raven yesterday and in Game i was overheated and powered down ( gaustic yeah )

An Phrakt was standing about 20 Meters before me and fired all what he had to offer at me, and i coudnt believe it, he missed nearly all shots ( from 20 Meters standing still to an powered down Mech)

Damm i loled like hell. but generaly its realy an issiu.

It's possible that,on his screen, you were standing a good 20-30 meters from where you "actually" are according to you and the server. So to him,he was shooting the powered down raven, but to you he was shooting into thin air.Mechs, especially fast mechs, seem to have some de-syncing issues when they overheat and slide to a stop.Or maybe he/she was just a terrible shot, who knows.

That's the quality PGI netcode and hitreg at work baby.

Lights can tank damage just as well as an Atlas.

This isn't a light vs everything else observation: Its just Ravens.

I have a maxed out Jenner; Jenners and commandos (including ECM commandos) are pretty easy to kill if I can get behind them at speed. Ravens I can't touch.

I can be running behind one, 50m away, and somehow miss every shot over and over.

I would have to disagree. Until ECM the Jenner was by many considered the most powerful mech in game due to load-out and the fact that you could not hit the little booger. Now the Raven is the flavor of the week and people cant hit it either. ECM may make it even harder but any small fast mech with the net code issues is going to be much tougher than it should be until the net code is figured out. Of course anyone who pilots a light knows that when you get hit, it hurts. Unfortunately the way things are it doesn't hurt as much as it should.

+1 to the OP for bringing this up. I have also noticed (and been extremely frustrated by) how inordinately tough Ravens are to bring down.

I don't believe lag is the total issue with Ravens, although it does make it harder to hit. But you can hit a Raven with a Gauss, or AC20, it registers the hit, the Raven takes damage. But they don't take as much damage as they should.

No Lights tank damage WAY better than an Atlas. If an Atlas wanders into the middle of the enemy team its DEAD every single time. If a Raven wanders into the middle of the enemy team, it gets out, with yellow armor... at worst.

And also a large part of the problem with lights is that water reduces damage on weapons. So when you have a light mech running around in water its taking like half the damage it normally would if it wasnt in the water. I dont know why PGI made water reduce damage its frickin dumb.

Hit Box. The Raven has a unique and “buggy” hitbox layout, one that has too much negative space. This is why they will occasionally take no damage, even when standing still or shut down. If you fail to directly connect with the Raven’s minuscule hitbox locations they will take little or no damage; big bore ballistics like the AC20, can achieve a partial hit for some damage, while a smaller Gauss round will pass harmlessly though. Even worse, all appear to be direct hits client side, but server-side they do no damage.

Do you have any proof on this? I remeber when people claimed this about the Jenner, but that got fixed apparently when ECM came out and was transfered to the Raven. I know there are lag issues due to peoples pings but I never seen it due to the mech chosen. I was just so burned by the whole Mayan calander thing not causing the end of the world that I am starting to ask for proof on old wives tales.

I can't get over when they are moving slow or even Stationary they wont go down

If a Jenner overheats and stops you can kill it though, doesnt seem near as easy with the ravens

I have been noticing this as well, but I don't pilot a Raven so I wasn't sure if it had more armor than the Jenner or not. But I've had this happen several times too, just yesterday in my Atlas I come across the rear of a stationary Raven peeking above a ridge for his lance, I light him up with 3 alphas (4 ML, 2 SRM6, 2UAC5) and he just sat there taking it, didn't even lose a component before an Awesome comes around the corner loaded to the teeth with LL and drops me.

Ravens can get pretty good armor, you need to go for the back. It really depends on how fast the raven is moving. If it has the standard engine it came with which is like 97 kph then it can get its armor up to almost a dragon everywhere but its back and center torso (this is in a non upgraded dragon with 320 armor).

This is assuming I understand how armor works and if you have 30 armor in the center torso as a light and heavy then you have the same center torso armor.

I just started a week ago so not sure if I am understanding this correctly.

I was reading on sarna how the atlas has an AC-20 that can kill light mechs in 1 shot...

haha...the spirit of TT at work right here.

With better netcode & collisions that are coming this will improve.

If ANY light mech (or Cicada) stops .... then they are NOT piloting correctly. The only reason one of them should stop is if they are pumping a fatal shot into the back of a fatty ... and even then ... only when they are absolutely sure they are safe to do so. Otherwise they should be running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Speed is life.

Raven stops, I fire 40 point aLpha after 40 point alpha with my 8 med laser hunchie, start pressing "O" once heat gets heat gets maxed (Along with other Teamates mind you) .Its starts moving and takes off again with only yellow damage markers. ^_^

Edit* forgot to add, Since ECM got added and Ravens have started to reappear ,I have only been able to kill 1 Raven in I don't know how many games (Been keeping track).

In "almost" all matches or a good chunk anyways, I have noticed that overwhelming the last Enemy Mech on the field is not a Jenner anymore, more times than not it is a Raven. I am sure others have noticed this also

It has been like this since closed beta. It is not only lights that have this effect, but all mechs of all sizes. It is just worse on fast moving mechs.

Here is an experiment you can try. Have your buddy stand still, you stand still and then shoot him with a medium laser on a specific part. Do nothing for the rest of the match. You will see less than 5 points of damage delivered most of the time.

The lagshield is a complete myth that is a holdover from the closed beta days when lights would literally teleport from point to point. If you have a fast internet connection and you live in North America, you will generally hit what you aim at.

The actual reason that the raven seems to take so much damage is that it's fast, small, and maneuverable. When I'm being shot at in my raven, I make sure that I spread that damage out all over my chassis and even onto my teammates by retreating back into the friendly blob.

If you think there's a lagshield stopping you from shooting at lights...

... come live in Australia and play with 250ms constantly, then complain ^_^

You are wrong. My ping to the server is <10ms. I still have to lag shoot to hit lights because of the netcode.

Please do not spread disinformation.

No, you "take a lot of damage" because people do not know how to lead you properly. Nothing else.
