Like every other F2P game out there, be it MMO, MMORPG, etc... you can play for free and be successful (except Facebook where you need a mob of friends to progress well) given you play the game correctly. And just like those games, an "upgraded" or "premium" account will have added perks that "free" accounts don't have... Like the AstroEmpires game... upgraded accounts had no limits on advanced structures on your planets, regional scanners to detect incoming fleets, and no limit on the number of bases you can build so long as you can afford them, while the free accounts were limited in bases, had no scanners and you got to deal with ads and less "empire" links... nothing really extensive.

I am guessing MWO will allow the "premium" accounts to gain more XP and C-bills easier than the "free" accounts. That's just for those who don't decide to shell out the $30/60 for the Operation: Inception deal... all in all... I'm spending my money on keeping my account "premium" so I can fully enjoy the game... Free-2-Play or not, I've spent thousands over the years on BattleTech/MechWarrior... had a nice break in between things and now it's back to spending on my addiction again :o

I'm not sure I like this idea of a premium account too much, but hopefully I'm wrong.

I prefer it to just be a booster that you can purchase at any time, hopefully not a monthly thing. Additionally, I'm not too wild about having to spend c-bills on repairs. I think that once you've bought a mech, it should be yours and that's it. Having a griefer come in and ruin a match of 4v4, 8v8 or 12v12 could be disastrous.

Unless repairs are a very minor amount, I'm worried about how this will play out.

I play league of legends a lot, and although the capability for griefing is high in LoL, there's no real penalty other than you've wasted 20 minutes. I sincerely hope for the best for this game, it has my upmost attention and I'm dying to try it. Crossing my fingers that they get the economy part right.

Sticking with the idea they will most likely follow the WoT Premium Account setup, it basically is a booster. Sort of. You can purchase, I believe, a 1-day Premium, a 1-week Premium, or a 1-month Premium. So, something for everyone there, even if you can't get on often you won't really waste money on a Premium account, just buy 'em for a day when you've got time to use it.

There isn't really a ratio for real money to C-bills. The Mechlab dev video shows mechs with prices in both Cbills and MC(the cash-purchased currency) but the MC values do not necessarily relate directly to a Cbill value. The MC cost are listed in a flat rate per size class and it lists the Dragan and the Catapult both at 700 MC- but they both have a different Cbill cost. so, there is no flat rate between C-bills and MC.

Weapons were not given a cost in MC, only Cbills, so it may not be possible to buy weapons, equipment, or modules except with C-bills.

The temporary premium account listed in Operation:Inception says "Earn XP & C-Bills faster." 30 days for the veteran package, 60 days for the elite package.
The permanent founder's battlemech has a lifetime C-bill booster per match for that mech.

I think the MC cost is the Maintenance Cost, thats the reason I think is the same tax for the same weight class ( medium, heavy, etc...). This fee is present in other MW games alrready

MC Is Mechwarrior Credits, and are the points you buy with money.

lol and tanks that shouldnt even be there =3 .,,,, the entire (almost) french tank tree if you bother to do research on them they only had about 3 tanks ww2 ... nya

still better to see for our selves what the premium mode is gonna be like rather than speculate.... im fairly certain that even those of us that dont get chosen for beta will be told by those who do what its like so its pointless worrying about something that youll know for certain in a day or two :o

The Developers have already stated a few times that Our Mechs will always be partly repaired to a bare minimal level so I don't think we'll have to worry too much about going broke due to battle damage.

I think you are right on that but the real money will be spent on changing weapons armor and other equipment.

pretty sure you only earn C-bills and MC is the real cash in game currency, probably on a $1-1000 scale.

So you can continue to worry about griefers if you like as you apparently have all the information. I don't really see the point of worrying when for all I know team caused damage will be free to repair.

Whats a griefer?
Sorry I have not been into MW:LL

I have seen the price of mechs on the vids
And if it is $1-1000 I will NEVER buy C-Bills
Most mechs cost 5 mil C-Bills

A griefer is a player who causes grief.

For example. You and 3 others spawn, ready to take on another team of 4.

Someone on your own team starts shooting you on purpose, costing you time and repair money, and probably the match.

I'm here to say the WoT model isn't bad.
As with anything worth playing and get good at: It requires work.
I hhave a large stable of established credit earners of various types in WoT. So the Gameplay never get's "stale" as I can jump from a Pz. lV, to a T49, to a JagdPanther, and still earn credits.
The key to understanding the "F2P" model in cases like MWO and WoT is that if you plan on not spending a ton of cash; you're going to have to grind/work to be able to run (in WoT's case) high tier, or in MWO's case: Expensive loadouts in Assault Mechs.
I've spent a total of 50 bucks on WoT. Just to primarily expand my garage/barracks. And I can happily run a tier 9 now without worrying about the cost.
I assume that MWO will pattern itself somewhat along the same lines (as a matter of fact it appears to have done so): Just finishing the "Master" grind in Hunchies. -Basically completing the establishment of my first grinding Mech (Screw the Trial Mechs; they suck).
I've managed to pile up a tidy amount of credits now that the Hunchies have what one would call their "top loadout" capability.
So I'm seeing the MWO credit grind as similar without being the same as WoT.
Edit.
I have just realised that there is the "Exchange XP" button under the Mech XP: This is another similarity to WoT's system where an "Elite" unit (In MWO's case a "Master" unit) can use it's XP to accelerate crew training (In MWO's case: The Pilot).
