I've seen plenty of people who alt-f4 when they're about to die, it's really stupid. K/D doesn't mean anything if your win/loss ratio doesn't back it up.

First:
When the client closes, crashes, or disconnects from the server, the player is held inside the game for 1 minute. They're mech is still active, can be killed, and award the other team points.
Second:
Allow players to rejoin the game within that minute to regain control of their mech and aid their team.
Third:
If a player's client closes/loses contact with the server and is killed (by enemy fire) within that 1 minute time period then they won't be awarded C-bills for the whole game* (only awarded C-bills for their progress up to the point of leaving the game), and will be treated as an intentional bail-out before dieing.
This solves these problems:
ALT+F4'ers closeing their game right before they die. They'll have to be thinking 1 minute ahead.
Players can re-join their game within 1 minute (takes about 20 seconds to re-log into the client, a bit slower for some, bit faster for some.)
8-man premades and pugs can have fairer fights as DC'd players are able to come back into the game.
*It's up to the devs whether they want this or not. I think it would be good once they iron out a lot of the CTD bugs.

And for the love of all that is good and holy, PGI, make the colored stat on your page the W/L one, not the K/D. Make the more important one clear.

This isn't "NEW" by any means, "DISCO" before death has been around since day one...
.
I know personally of two people that end up in matches against me fairly often, and if i'm the person picking apart their Mech, they DC to avoid me getting the kill (not naming names). I have quit before because of this or that Bug, and the dreaded 4 FPS bug.

Major +1 on this.
Only modification: 1 minute is a tad on the short side. About 1/3 of the time I crash I have to restart my computer, and it would be wonderful if we were given a touch more time. 3 sounds like plenty. (Or just keep the window open as long as the match is running.)

Sometimes I look at my team and what they're doing, then I look at the enemy team and see what they're doing... and I say:
F it, I don't deserve to die 'cos the MM put me w/ newbs.
OR
F it, I don't deserve to die 'cos I like using LRMs/SSRMs and you like using ECM.

1) I look at my team and they're wandering around like a bunch of headless chickens. Once the fourth wandering chicken dies without any answering kills, I can exit the match without any pang of conscience. I'm better of moving to another mech and another match than getting focus fired down before I can accomplish anything. If we're having a nice brawl and just losing, I won't exit.
2) If I get practically one-shotted by a high-alpha build or by a massive volley of LRMs. Screw that, I'm here to play, not wander around gimped because some mechs can strip all my armor off in one shot. If I don't have a chance to at least shoot back, I'm not going to bother, those people can play without me as a moving target.
For the record, I can't care about my stats. I don't even know what they are. But I DO value my time, and I don't enjoy wasting my time in a hopeless situation.

they are the tipical griefers, kids in either body and/or mind who are unable to play on skill so they play on exploits to catter to their EGO. funnyest way to ruin their "fun" who be to simply make intentinal disconnects count as death in KDR. but then we would have a ton of threads whining that the new KDR rating system is ruining the game. rsrsrs

1. NO EXCUSE!
2. The developers REALLY need to implement that for people who drop out of a match that when they log back in, the game instantly loads the match they were in, regardless if they have died.
3. The developers should prevent people from quitting a match early even if they are dead.
4. If I see people doing this in game, I will write their name down and order my lance to kill them on the spot - regardless if they're on my own team. (I've already had to order my lance to team kill because the guy kept shooting a lance mate in the back CT on purpose until he had nothing but a hairline of structure left.)
5. Exploits such as this should NEVER be tolerated by the developers, GM's, AND the community. At DHB, if you are found to be using exploits, you're immediately stricken from the ranks, banned from ever rejoining, and put on a KOS list. We do NOT tolerate cheating or any kind of exploit and neither should YOU.
