I like to know if I need to have all the variants of a Mech to bring a hero Mech of the same Class or tipe to build Variants beyond basic.

I am not in to Wasting Cbill and MC just to get past Basic to build my Hero Mechs that I am collecting.

I want only founder and Hero Mechs in my Mech-bay. and I only want to put in the time to build them.

Same rules apply to the Hero mechs. You will need at least two more variants. You can always sell them once they are levelled. I did.

If you are asking if you need to purchase regular mech variants to be able to elite or master a mech tree on a hero mech then the answer is yes

you could if you wanted... only play the Hero mech and build up a lot of exp in that single mech variant... then you could take and convert that mech exp in general exp using MC... then buy the extra mech chassis, fill in the mech trees using your new found general exp then sell those extra variants and be done

just cost real money... or your grind time

Ok thank you guys for the info. I must say I am disappointed with how PGI is doing this.
Now I just need to think about if its really worth the Cash and the Time to even bother with MWO.
I am willing to put real money in to the game but not if thy are using every trick to force me to build and wast MC and Cbill to do it.
