When you get kills on a Mech, there should be a chance to salvage actual components from those Mechs as a means to increase rewards and provide incentive for participation in team fights for those that want to sit and hide instead of help their team. It would also save costs of building and tinkering with new Mechs.

I'd like something like this as long as it was a surprise once in a while off a mech you killed not a regular things.
"Hey....I got an LRM10 off that boat I killed!"

Perhaps granting salvage rights to any mech you get the killing blow on. The dev's would need a rework on the economy but could add a stock-pile of Armor/FF Armor/Internal structure/ES Internal Structure in the form of tonnage salvaged as well as a chance to salvage undestroyed components from mechs you got the killshot on. With these in place there wouldn't be such a stink over the RA&RP cost of fielding your mech since potentially you could build a stock from matches and make no-cost fixes yourself.

The thing is, where do the components come from? If you are salvaging a part off of a mech you killed, then does the person who went down LOOSE that part? That would be the logical association. If not, then why allow salvage of parts in the first place?

Salvage was always a massive part of the Mechwarrior experience. Salvage is already in the game as a cbill bonus but it's just no fun compared to getting random cool stuff like a gauss rifle..

I'd like to see real salvage implemented in short campaigns that stretch over the course of say 3-5 consecutive missions. During the set of missions you and your teammates would not be able to normally buy/sell/repair but be forced to use what you find on the battlefield.

I rather take the money than some stupid medium laser or machine gun.

Had the same idea yesterday. A random salvage component now and then would improve the reward system significantly. Just shelling out money is in essence very boring and unimaginitive.
If the chances for salvage would increase if the mech was disabled instead of destroyed, it would also counter the common strategy to reduce leg armor to squeeze in another heat sink or a ton of ammo.
Imagine how happy a newbie would be, if he would have made his first kill, and got a large laser which is the weapon he wanted, but was short on cash at the time. Or someone who needs another 100k for something, and he gets an expensive weapon as salvage.
I think a salvage system would make the game more fun and would improve the overall experience.

I would say that those parts constitute whatever parts/tonnage/internal structure he is charged to repair/replace. Only having a chance to salvage the pieces you destroy will discourage legging and encourage enemies to literally tear each other apart.

i had the thought of an auction system for the salvage. So remove the "Salvage Bonus" and the winning team gets a chance to bid on the pieces they would like. The money for each component then split between the people who did not win the auction of that particular component. Thus meaning people would be more likely to stay ingame with the hope that they may get some components they want, Recruit Mechwarriors could increase their armoury size.
