One thing I've always loved about Mechwarrior is that it "feels" like your in a giant machine.

Over the years I've attemped to play other mech style games since there was a big gap in Mechwarrior. Specifically, I recall Armored Core on my PS3. When I played it, I felt like I was just a "guy", not a giant mech, running around no different from starwars battlefront or other shooters.

I hope that MWO keeps that giant mech "feel". Its hard to explain. Do you guys know what I'm talkin about?

I think I see what you are talking about. Other games seem like they use motion capture and skin a robot on top of the model. MW has done what it seems no other has, giving you the feel of walking above the terrain, like the lord of all you survey.

That's what I love about sims, how they make you feel you're actually piloting the vehicle.

Too many of the current games out are 3rd person affairs. While that's great for situational awareness, it really has a drawback in player immersion.

That giant mech feel?

The one when you start pushing your throttle forward, and feel the entire cockpit lurch forward, pressing the seatbelts against your ribcage? Followed by violent rock left and right that prevents you from keeping your head up straight as you reach cruising speed? Then followed by the "bounce" every half second with the feeling of flying in between each step, as your mech glides across the ground at 86.4kph?

Ya, it has that.

The mech walk will be in for sure.

That sound of increasing power from engine when you increase throttle. Those stomps always shaking your screen...

Everyone has his own favorite part of it, but it's in. :D

Yes the sim of being in a giant mech is like nothing else and MW does it best. The third person view is great when you need to track movement direction compared to weapon traverse, it just doesn't give you the same felling of piloting as the cockpit view of MW.

That's why this game is so great. The Metaltech: Earthsiege games (not Starsiege) achieved the same feel. Each step pounds the ground and each step is important and strategic.

And at the end of the day don't we all just walk to pilot a giant Mech and blow stuff up? It's good to feel powerful.

MPBT had your mech shaking when it got hit. Would have to re-aim and hope you didn't get jarred as you pulled the trigger else you shot would miss. People would hate getting hit by machine guns because of it messing up your aim. (and the lag storm it caused). But it was a good piece of "realism"

Now they just need to make the game link to your thermostat so every time you fire your PPCs or Rockets you are boiled alive.

Just put a laptop computer on your lap, you can get the same affect.

That's why you load the Catapult up with LRM 5's and set them to chain fire. Once you get a target lock at about 200m inside max range and closing you start firing one at a time with a 1 or 2 second pause before you fire the next. You will always have loaded tubes, your target will never get a good shot off and your team mates can close the gap and enguage him at medium range after taking little or no damage from him. Or they deal with the rest of his team first and then close on him.

But you do have to love the walk, have to figure out the sweet spot where you are moving fast enough to be harder to hit but are still dealing with just a rolling back and forth.

From the gameplay videos I get the feel of being in a huge ground stomping mech, but also your camera is disconnected from the rest of the cockpit. It gives it a great feeling and reminds you that you're just the pilot of a giant beast of a machine that you're fighting to keep under control.

Actually, IMO, battlefield2142 had the best 'feel' of a giant, lumbering mech. The mechwarrior series is too... smooth. Your guns dont jostle around w/ every step you take, you view out of the cockpit doesnt bounce hardly at all, etc.

I BF2142, the walkers felt much more stompy to me. You even had to learn to compensate for your side to side lumbering mech when you fired your guns. It was quite nice.

I feel that I know exactly what you mean. When I saw videos of Hawken, my first thought was, "if I can maneuver like a a regular human and take damage linearly to a health bar like most in-game humans, why don't I just play a better game that has human player characters?"

If you mean quickly strafing like in Quake dodging lightning guns, I don't think you'll be able to do it effectively.

I just hope the Sound for the walk does the giant armored warmachine justice. I remember playing autoassault and seeing the water in my glass shake as I fired my cars gun. The sub-woffer was getting so much of a workout even the toilet water was moving...
Scared my friend when she went to the bathroom and saw it.

So lets Hope for Awesome Thumping footfalls and pounding autocannons.

One of the best things about MW, and I am sure they nailed it with MWO..

One thing I am really hoping for is graphical effects while inside the cockpit that make it more immersive, especially related to taking on damage.

One game that did the "Mech Walk" fantastically, was Killzone 2. Especially when you consider it is not a mech game...

Don't remind me about chromehounds....

Such an awesome game. I hope that MWO's persistence one day is similar in depth to Chromehounds "Wars"
