I don't understand why someone would download, install and configure the Teamspeak client. Why they would pick a server, wait to join a channel, figure out who's group to join and then wait for the other players in that group to ready up. All this to get into a match with a group of other people and go silent for the next 5 or 10 minutes.

What is magical about being in a group that wins matches? Nothing.

Winning a match doesn't happen just because a group formed. You should communicate, co-ordinate, co-operate to win. USE the damned tool, otherwise please go Launch by yourself. It's wasting other people's time when they drop in that group with you because they expected communicate, co-ordinate and co-operate the way Teamspeak was intended to be used for MWO.

Thanks!

You go because you expect the people there to be half decent. That usually means, ironically, you DON'T need to hold their hand and communicate much.

Fancy that eh?

Are we talking about groups of 4 where noone talks at all? Because then yeah, that is a little silly.

However I go onto teamspeak and will play games where I don't talk at all, but someone else gives the orders and I listen meaning I'm working with my team.

I usually only say something in match when I need help, see us getting flanked, or see a target of opportunity. Other than that I just listen and follow commands.

I find if people are fun they will talk more but I have had plenty of silent team wins. Mostly calling targets and just basic scout info, funny that is enough most times.

That's enough I'd say, but everyone following and no-one leading is a pita.

As for knowing your roles, pretty sure even the pros talk to each other.

watching some videos you hear alot things like

target alpha
switch to target beta, ignore hotel and so on.

took me a few games to realize that my target icon, had a letter attached to it :P

Thats the reason i dont wana talk to stranger on teamspeak.

I get sick of their smacktalk all the time.

question "where are you dude i come and help"
answer random guy on TS :" HERE !! IAM HERE... HELP god.. lost my arm ******* OP ravens "
My XP with random ppl are kinda.... bad.
Smacktalk during battle... E-peen talk during battle and so on.

I mean you have to learn how to talk on TS.. if you never were in a clan or with ppl who are used to talk "normaly" it is kinda hard to stand such ppl.

So i hang out with my rl friends on TS and just have fun ^^.

I was pleasantly surprised at how most of the people on the Comstar teamspeak are respectful and friendly. I've had one guy with a stick up his backside over a friendly fire incident in about 3-4 months of using it. Everyone else, regardless of skill level just seems like a nice guy that wants to play a game and have fun.

There may be lots of whiny, bitchy people out there, but I haven't been in a room with any of them so far. Maybe they're learning, maybe they just can't handle the additional thought needed for MWO or maybe they would rather play Hawken/Call of Dooty I dunno, I just know the stigma I associated with teamspeak and video games doesn't appear to be true here.

I share relevant information when I have it during a match and I might chat between matches but really, once you are in a match, mic discipline and keeping only to relevant facts is preferable. The absolute worst thing is hearing two guys chatting about whatever in the middle of a match and drowning out all useful info on the match itself.

Most people on the various TS servers are pretty decent people. I find that people are much more willing to be friendly if they can just say something rather than typing it mid-battle.

I don't go on there much nowadays because I don't like 4 man teams and the 8-man circuit is pretty much clan-only.

Well, duh.
Haven't you all been telling the solo players to 'just get on TS' for months, now?

Errr, a lot of people can't talk on Teamspeak for a variety of reasons, which have been expanded upon numerous times before.

The idea is that they can listen, though, so at least they can follow orders.

And, that aside? Just being in a group - even if your not talking or even typing much - leads to easier cooperative play. You get to know the mechs dropping with you, and there's an inherent encouragement to stay together. You watch their back, and they watch yours. In a random pug, you may watch other's backs, but you lose the assurance that they'll do the same.

It's really noticeable, I've found, from the groups we form in the "No Clan No Commitment" thread. We'll typically talk between matches, but not a lot in them (no VOIP, typing is difficult while playing), but even then we meet with vastly better success rates than solo dropping.

Join the Carrion Crows @ Carrioncrows.com we usually always have 1 person in our teamspeak to play with, we are there to have fun win or lose. We are all really chatty joking around or giving tactical advice so its never a dull moment.

If information is ammunition, communication is artillery.

This is why.
