The top of my list is Devlin Stone. Plot Armor Miles thick, Pulls off everything he ever tries, never pays the price, and their quintessential Godking of mysterious origins.
Have you even looked at the Campaign for Battle For Terra (Historical) and then the Jihad Version? It's virtuallly unwinable the second time around, yet they do...

Romano because calling her "bat crap insane" would be a compliment, and Sun-Tzu because he did a whole lot of nothing while managing to take credit for a lot of things.

I'm all down with mixing vehicles into mech fights, have done that for ages, but the entire atmosphere of the Dark Ages is garbage.
IF they wanted to do it right, they needed to bring down the HPG's just after the FedCom civil war. Skip that whole Jihad thing, and make it interesting. Sorry, no matter how you try to do it a chainsaw mech is not interesting to read about in battle.

One of my first 'mech designs was one I called the "Hacksaw" and had a chainsaw on one arm. Granted, I was probably 10-12 at the time, but it was long before the "Dark Age", probably around 1993-4. I was inspired by the Axeman/Hatchetman.
So why is a chainsaw on a 'mech "not interesting"?
Either way, I agree about Dark Age, it was dumb. But not as dumb as Mechassault 2.

Because it's really sad. It's like they went: What do kids like these days? Chainsaws! That on a mech is brutal! Cuz... of blood and gore and limbs... wait... there is no blood and gore... and it's made to cut down trees... and have you see the models? It's not a Chainsword, it's not even functionally designed properly, the chain would come off of that T shape so fast...
It's just dumb.
Chainsword ala WH40K, very cool. Chainsaw on a 30 ton mech with a diesel engine? Lame. It runs on /GAS/. It's not a BattleMech and shouldn't be on the battlefield.

Nothing killed the will to follow the saga of the Battletech universe for me faster than the cheap poor quality and poorly painted minis randomly boxed from china, coupled with a rehash bunch of stories that made my brain hurt... ie. "Dying Time" by Thomas S. Gressman
