It's hard saying why you're doing so little damage not seeing you play, but I can at least say watch your targets paperdoll in the upper right when you fire. The little outline around each component is the armor, try firing at the most red torso piece or center torso. Once the outline is gone, their armor is gone. and the inside part starts getting more and more red. Keep firing at that one till it is destroyed. Try to keep your lasers steady and hold them on one component when you fire to do the most damage. Pulses need less steady control, and SRM missiles, PPCs and balistics just need you to lead your target some to do full damage/projectile.

This topic reminds me. I need to prioritize a quicky how to purchase a 'Mech, or keep track of the youtube link to Run Hot or Die's video on it to throw at pugs when they ask.

Currently the balance of light mechs is completely broken. The 4X is probably in the top 10 worst mechs, perhaps 5, depends on who you ask. I did surprisingly well with it though when mastering the POS of the 3L (the best light mech). Although quite more expensive, it is a much better mech too with higher speed and ECM. I'm sorry, I love how the 4X looks too. I'm a big fan of its design.

Why do I have a feeling that my Cicada 2A is in that list? :-P

Not quite anymore, SSRMs are only great for light mechs that can't hit their targets. With 6 medium lasers, and more armor, the Cicada compares favorably to a Raven-3L. With net code being so close to good, and medium lasers doing as much damage as a gausscat (if you can maintain full damage to one part), I'd choose the Cicada over the Raven now, but pilot skill is a larger factor in that one.
