I was thinking about using projectors instead of three monitors whenever i feel that i'm ready to play around with eyefinity. I was also thinking about running a "rear projection" setup. But i wanted to know: I've seen games use eyefinity all over youtube via projectors but it's always been with 2 or three projectors.

...Is there such a thing as running an eyefinity rezolution with only one projector or am i going to have to use 3 projectors?

If not, can i do what i'm thinking about with three projectors?

Below is a pic of what i'm thinking about doing. I most likely wont try this at all because it's just cheaper and less of a hassle to just go purchase two more 27inch Monitors to add to the one that i already have.

Eyefinity requires a certain level of hardware compatibility, but there are most certainly pathways to a triple projector setup.

For inspirational purposes, here's a nice thread documenting a modest triple projector setup, using mediocre projectors but the net effect is nothing short of incredible.

I am very much looking forward to the day I can replace my now dead projector with an Epson 8350. For gaming, it's the best projector in the $1000 range (actually well beyond a 1$K it's still better) by a large margin owing to it's low latency that averages around 18ms and is 1080p. Add to that it has a pretty short throw distance and is also brightest/sharpest in class and it starts to really pull away from the competition, including other newer models from Epson. It's like the HBK-4SP of HD projectors. ^_^

I keep wavering between that projector, and a 30" Yamakasi, both of which are pipe dreams so long as I'm on top ramen status...

Well... A projector can only deliver a maximum of whatever resolution it is rated for as its maximum. If by 'eyefinity resolution' you are thinking of something equivalent to three 1080P (or higher) resolution monitors combined into a single large eyefinity display group... then I'd say "No, you aren't going to be able to do that with a single projector".

You could possibly do a decent display with 2 projectors, depending on how demanding you are about the resolution. Remember, with a projection screen, you don't have the issue of a bezel potentially covering up your targeting reticule(s).

However... based upon your sketch, you have an additional challenge. You depict a cylindrical section arrangement, instead of flat projection screen(s). That will necessitate using software, such as Warpalizer, or nthusim, to handle adjusting the beams to make it look right on your curved screen.

If your priorities are lower costs and less hassle, buying additional flat panel displays is almost certainly your best bet.
