But one day before the patch I decided to make a custom profile for MWO in the nVidia control panel, and this got me a 10 FPS increase with a more stable frame rate during battles.
This leads me to think the custom profile is responsible.

60C on what? the GPU? that's a pretty low temp to be getting crashes - that would be a faulty card
most GPU's will run up to about 80C fairly happily before getting in to major problems

at least i know its not my cooling then

gpu gets to about 60c and cpu high 50s.
i looked up a amd work around on the forums. said to turn off overdrive (overclock) so i did and im trying force crash this thing right now

yes... if you are running with VSYNC off then your GPU activity should be >90% constantly
with vsync on you may see dips because the card doesn't need to work so hard if it's locked to 60FPS instead of peaking up to 80FPS or whatever

they actually do... i readded the "low end" user.cfg settings after the last patch, because i suffered from constantly dropping fps every 20 seconds,,,
together with "sys_spec value = -1" in the "attributes" file i can play like a few hours w/o issues... value = 0 though... seems not to be any better, so the user.cfg alone doesn´t solve it

so if i get it right, i should try turning VSYNC on?
but on the other hand, i don´t even get over 40fps (which is an improvement of over 20 fps since october)

Wait.

50 Celsius??? My computer's CPU normally runs at 22 degrees Celsius/72 degrees Fahrenheit. (At this moment, there's no heat in the house at the moment so it is running at 13C/55F--BUT STILL!!)
And Apoc1138 believes that 60 is pretty low!? That just blows my mind.

on idle maybe, what about when actually gaming?

scroll down to the 2nd picture; Overclocked CPU temp, 100%
you'll see a range of temps from 60C - 90C
also, the OP is talking about GPU not cpu, so GPU temps will tend to be higher than CPU in most systems

vsync is only of any use if you get 60+FPS - it prevents tearing on the screen which sometimes happens when you run over the monitors refresh rate... if you are getting a max of 40FPS then vsync will do nothing good for you
