Just noticed a few PUGs just melt against the massed fire of multiple SRM6 Catapults.

In between, the relatively small map sizes, ECM, Laser heat problems, and the now Light mechs going on the endangered species list, is the Splat Cat is now the king of the hill?

With an honorable mention to the 4 SRM6 Stalker of course.

Splattacats run hot too. It is a very good build, but CPLT are still only 65 tons. Aim for the head.

Multiples working together is good, because it's multiple mechs with the same build working together.
Heck, I manage hideous things with a friend both in Centurions...

As long as everyone wants to play short range brawlers and run up and hug everyone, it will be a contender.

Spattapults are easy to kill because I just stand further than 270 meters. I also run 30 kp/h faster than them usually.

Splatcats have always been scary. They dish out some of the best damage at short range. However, they still have vulnerable easy to hit torsos and poor ranged damage.

They're not the best, they're just easy mode points for players who aren't very good. Anyone can build one with ease, jump in and do serious amounts of damage just by running straight and aiming in the general direction of the enemy and left click. That's all there is to it.

But actual good players do way better in other mechs.

Dunno. Seen several AWS-8Rs give the 6-pack cat a run for their money. Not saying the 6-pack cat isn't brutal, just not impossible to deal with.

I hated playing the A1 when I was getting catapult to elite. It does good damage - at close range, with a slow refire delay and a huge vulnerability to damage. Blow the arms off and it has nothing. Stay at range and it has nothing.

I ended up having more luck with 2 15s and 4 6s.

Missileboats are a one trick pony and as the average player skill improves their effectiveness will decline.

Really, srmcats are deadly against slower mechs. But if you de-ear them, you'll halve their dps even with one ear down. I still run a 3L with pulse. I take out their ears quite routinely. I guess its just my hit and run tactics.

i love using my dual ac10's to take their ears off. and just leave them

also at one point in CB they were the big thing. it will change given time.

Not that I am a fan of the 6pack cats, but hitting any light with 3 to 6 SRM6s is pretty damned devastating too.

Splatcats will have at most 3 alphas then overheat..

If you are in against a splatcat, count down the srm cycle time... You can run and gun to avoid it...

6Cats are dangerous but with easily exploitable weaknesses. If they get you first you're going to suffer, but that would have happened with any situation where the enemy got the jump on you with a surprise alphasecks. Be aware what kittie is packing what, where it is, and trim ears accordingly. Let your buddies know, so it can get focused down instead of living long enough to kick out 400 more points of damage.

Take their ears off with medium or larger lasers, or any ballistic except machine guns. They can't hit you past 270 meters and will probably not even try unless within 150m.

Now if they are covered by ecm and you turn a corner to find yourself face to face, aim for the head and hope you kill him before he kills you.

I wonder why it seems like a lot of people are only now discovering this build even though it's been around for a long time. Is it the improved netcode, or are a bunch of high profile groups running them more?

I wouldn't advise people to aim for the ears unless they are already damaged. You're talking 40 armor each. For that much damage you could have just cored him from the front.

people will try everything they hear about... let them die a few times most of them will say "catapult is bad" and they disappear as quick as they came... you see this phenomenon with any so called "overpowered" build

"Atlaswarrior Online"
"Gausscatwarrior Online"
"streakcatwarrior online"

only to name a few :P
