The Score screen (Tab), Battlegrid (B) and chat (T/Y) all disable joystick function. This bug has been present since the introduction of the Battlegrid (approximately). I don't see it on the "Known Issues" list, but it has been previously reported many times. I know that it makes sense that keyboard control is removed during chatting (otherwise we'd get messages like wwwaaasssaaaa). However, the joystick issue is worse in that the throttle goes immediately to OFF, as if "X" had been pressed. I'd be fine if the mech continued to move as last commanded until the chat was complete, but it would be better if joystick control was retained.

For example, see ticket #19704.

Or this one:

I know I'm not alone using a mouse and throttle for mech control, not to mention pedals for turning. I'd love to use joystick too, but I find the joystick angular velocity control to be inferior to mouse position control.

Please vote if you have this issue also.

I've actually lost a match because of this. I stopped to type "headed to base" to reply to the team about a cap, and they other team capped just a split second before I was there to contest it. I still see that Commando, just sitting on my base and smiling, knowing that I was just a hair too slow....
