So, as I understand it PGI/IGP do not have the right to create merchandise based on MWO since TOPPS (I think) hold the Battletech merchandise rights. Which is a shame as merchandise of various types is one way of making more money from a product, and more money for PGI/IGP is, of course, a good thing as far as keeping the game alive.

However if _somehow_ it were to become possible for PGI/IGP to create MWO merchandise without having TOPPS lawyers descend upon them like a school of bloodfrenzied sharks then there's one thing in particular I would want to see.

Remember those old "Robotech Defenders" plastic model kits Revell used to make? You know, the kind you had to glue together and paint yourself? There used to be (with different names of course) Griffins, Battlemasters, Thunderbolts, Goliaths, Scorpions and even Phoenix Hawk LAMs available, and others as well. I loved those kits. Got a Griffin myself and it was a joy to put together. They were awesome, particularly for the time (back in the 80's) and were even poseable as arms and legs had functional (more or less) joints.

I want MWO model kits based on Alex's fantastic battlemech redesigns. I want! I'd practically kill for them, or at least shell out a lot of cash for that kind of product. I mean, who among us wouldn't want to put together a poseable Alex Iglesias Dragon and Catapult, and then pose them with the Dragon's claw getting ready to crush the Catapult's cockpit?

Yeah. I want this so much.

if say kotobukiya did a few model kits in the same way and quality as they have done the Armoured core model kits I'd buy a good chunk of them

Well... they've made nice 3D models... they could sell right to use those and if you owned a 3D printer, fair use laws would say **** you to Topps. Just say'n

Yes, the MWO mech designs do beg for model kits or miniatures.

If PGI were to allow you to buy a 3d model to use in a 3d printer for personal use only I would jump at the chance tbh I would looovvveeeee to be able to print out and paint my own highlander ^ ^

i don't think the developers want to owe the mob anything. making that many lawyers go away "somehow" would probably require a very large favor in return.

Its actually in the interests of both parties to come to some arrangement on this. There are still a lot of model collectors out there; even if you don't normally collect models, this could be one way to own your own diecast or plastic Atlas.

MWO have effectively done their bit in raising the profile of the MechWarrior universe. Some buy into it through MC and others through game time. The model manufacturers gain from this because, at the very least, we all want to own a model of our favourite Mech and (If we can find them) are willing to part with cash for it.

By producing models of the Mech units and selling them through almost any outlet that they can, the profile of MWO can also be raised. All it takes is to add the URL to the packaging and maybe a QR code that gives some information about MWO. The net result, if done properly = more new recruits who didn't know about MWO.

I really, really like the way mechs look in MWO. Not so much in previous incarnations(or even old illustrations from BT novels and such). I'd love to have an actual christmas atlas bobblehead on my desk.

Surely if PGI developed the mechs we play with they can create merch? There must be something in there.. ..i know its adapting an existing idea, but darn, these mechs would make for cool statuettes and minatures, i would so pay money to get an Atlas or catapult to stick on my desk!!
