Here is what I have so far:

5N + more torso twist
- none
3C + 1 E hardpoint moved to center, faster with XL engine
- none
5J + 1 extra E hardpoint, 5 jump jets
- lose one missle hardpoint (!)
7M + gets one narc tube, 5 jump jets
- none
7K + gets 2 ballistic hardpoints (ac or ac + mg), more torso twist
- lose 2 energy hardpoints, lose all lrm's

I'm not sure which variant I want to buy first.

The 5N is the stock loadout.

The 3C is the only variant without better torso twist or jump jets. But with an XL engine it could be as fast as some lights. Looks kinda fragile to me.

The 5J trades an LRM15 for 5 jump jets.

The 7M trades a standard engine for an XL, a narc tube and 5 jump jets.

The 7K I'm not really sure about. With 2 of every hardpoint, it could be built many different ways.

Please feel free to discuss and post your builds here.

Can anyone say how squishy these guys are with the XL engine? I usually don't put XL's in mediums. But with a high top speed I might give it a try if it helps.

The arms of the Trebuchet are gigantic, the entire mech is bigger than the Centurion.

The XL 300 that came stock with my -3C seems good, enough speed to keep enemies outside of min range. Use a Centurion instead if you want STD engines. The Trebuchet has little/no torso weapons, and a high engine cap.

Really need a big engine because of the terrible cone of arm movement.

Been having a blast tonight running my 7M w/ a 300xl, 3ML, 2xSRM6 and SRM2 with 5JJ. It's practically a 4SP that trades a little surviveabilty for the opportunity to sing "You Can Fly"

Also setup a 5J as a mobile sniper, 2xERPPC and an SRM6 with 4JJ, XL250 engine, runs a little hot (especially on Caustic), but is quite manageable overall.

Picked up a 7K as well, wanted to try something a little different...250XL, Gauss, 2MPL, AMS. Havn't had the chance to try this one out, but it looks to be oodles of fun. Also considered using 2xAC5 with 2ML and AMS, but want to try out the Gauss first

I've been cored through most times, or deep red CT when my side goes out.
Arms are really good shields, as are the legs if you use your Jets. The profile is similar to the Awesome: it's big up front but very slim front to back.

Not very squishy at all if you push the armor levels up from the stock levels (which are alarmingly low for all models). One of them had 22 pts of side torso armor standard on the front and 10 on the back... and if you're running an XL that's not a lot of protection.
