Founded in 3043, the Musée National des Beaux-arts du Tamarind in Padaron City ensures that many native works remain in the duchy, reserved for the people as part of the cultural identity provisions of the Addendum to the Incorporation. Situated on the banks of the Parnos River, the Musée itself is widely regarded as a work of art in its own right. Even after three decades of steady rule, however, the 84-year-old Therese Marik,as grand-dame of planetary affairs, has not stripped away all of her predecessor’s trappings. The “courtly arts” of falconry and hunting remain popular among Tamarind’s elite, though the duchess ensures that such pursuits do not distract from good governance.

Therese Marik (born 2983 - died 3???) was born on Paradise. She was the third child of Janos Marik and his first wife, Hilda Lauber. Her elopement with Jeremy Brett caused a rift between her and her father. It was not until Thomas Marik acceded to the Captain-Generalcy that she reconciled with her family.

She was known to enjoy falconry.

Biography

Early Years

Therese was a good child, always obedient to her parents. Her father, Captain-General Janos Marik, wanted her to marry a prominent official within the Regulan Free States, Corbin Tkaczuk, to foster an alliance. She refused and, in her only act of rebellion, eloped with then-Captain Jeremy Brett. Brett was an artillery commander who was described as "handsome" and "dashing", but he was not the man her father wanted her to marry. Therese was publicly disowned by her father and Brett found his commission cashiered.

Disowned

Therese and her husband relocated to Khe Shang province on Tamarind. There, she became a staff officer with the Tamarind Defense Forces and he served as the commander for Khe Shang's static defenses. As early as 3025, Therese's "high virtues... endeared her to the populace".
The early 3030s saw an insurrection on Tamarind. The democratically-elected government of Prime Minister Otho Korituk was a disaster and the people were tired of it.In 3035, Therese was elected governor of Tamarind.
Marriage and children

Therese Marik married Jeremy Brett in 3008. They had two sons. House Marik

After Thomas Marik became Captain-General in 3036 and the Andurien Crisis ended, Therese was welcomed back into the family. She stayed in relative obscurity, earning a reputation as "a skilled politician and administrator".

Photon Brett-Marik (b 3014 - d. 3???) was the son of Duchess Therese Marik and Marshall Jeremy Brett.
He was described as such, “ Tall and lanky like his father but with his mother's classical looks and raven hair, Photon Brett-Marik was every inch the martial Marik. ”

Biography

Early Life & Career

As a nephew of Thomas Marik, but a member of a distaff branch of the family that was all but disowned, Photon did not seek to use the family name to his benefit. In order to ensure he received no special treatment, Photon enlisted in the Free Worlds League Military in 3033 under name "Urien Domei". He lived as Urien Domei for seventeen years.
In 3048, "Urien Domei" was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel and executive officer of the Second Free Worlds Guards. He took part in a raid on the Federated Commonwealth world of Dixie in 3050 that mauled the Dixie Tamarind March Militia. He was awarded the Order of the Saber by the Captain-General for his actions. Captain-General Marik awarded it to Photon under his real name, shattering his persona.
Photon was promoted to Colonel and given command of the prestigious Second Free Worlds Guards in 3064.
Leadership

In 3071, Duchess Therese Marik declared the Duchy of Tamarind independent from the Free Worlds League, named herself the political leader, and placed Photon in charge of all military assets, naming him Marshall to replace his assassinated father. In 3075, Photon coordinated an offensive with the Buena Archonette of the Lyran Alliance against the worlds of Poulsbo and Khon Kaen, both of which had been occupied by Circinus Federation and Word of Blake troops since mid-March. Photon's proposed plan of attack was agreed with the Buena Archonette on the 16th of May, and although the Tamarind and Lyran forces took heavy damage, the operation was a success. The Lyrans took Poulsbo while Tamarind claimed Khon Kaen.
