You can't have true tier results when the Elitists are fighting people who are playing non-meta mechs and/or people leveling new mechs (aka a Drunk Mech). If you want to earn a gold medal than you need to compete verses other medalists putting forth their best effort too. I want to see a league mode which would pit other same tier players against each other so the true cream rises to the top, and not some noob crusher.
PSR is fine for match making but it doesn't have to be displayed. If it is a question of the size of the e-pen than use a real metric which compares real effort.
The fact is PUG matches can have peeps who just want to blow stuff up and don't carer about the results because its just fun to shoot things at the end of a day. Heck, one night a warrior could be 6 beers in and having fun but if he was planning for a match for the win he wouldn't have shown up with two hands tied behind his back.
PSR for match making is not a true measure of a pilot/fighters capability to bring his "A Game" to a match. True tiers should gauge a pilots best efforts against others best efforts.
An NBA player most likely has different levels of competitiveness for a game with friends and family as opposed to his "JOB" playing other NBA players.

I do agree that when certain people post random stuff in the forums, having tiers visible will probably help to end discussions faster and to avoid some stupid skill-based arguments without evidence... so in that sense I wouldn't mind if everyone's tier is visible.
Also we should know where the tier will be displayed... forums only? While playing? Only after the match is done (i.e., you see your team's tiers but not the enemy until after)?
Hopefully not in-game as people will tier-hunt.

There have been some pretty good points made. I love the idea of the number of players per tier in a match, That way people can see that even if they are getting rolled, it may not be because of skill but luck can also play a big part.
Luck not only plays a part but I know I personally do very well in certain builds and suck in others. Hell in some of the uber meta builds I still suck but by customizing it to my play style instead, I end up doing much better. Meta isnt always everything.
Some people have good days and other days or even matches are great. The thing about having tiers is that they do fluctuate based on averages so that one bad day may not cause you to drop all the way down to the bottom rung nor will that one game in ten million, where you actually achieve the "Death Star" achievement raise you to the top.

Regardless, that should be revealed along with the ratings. Individual absolute rating rather than tier should also be an option.
It should be opt out rather than opt in.

I'm a pretty decent shot on this game and am great at utilizing terrain and tactics to move and shoot. But in a bad team I'm often one of the first killed while trying to hold a flank alone or lead an attack as others simply run away at the first sign of trouble....or wander around studying the fauna and flora. So no matter how good a player is, if their team sucks they are often severely hampered. In a good team I often get 2 to 3 kills and damage 8 or more enemy Mechs. In a bad team I'm lucky to get a single kill as I spend most of my time trying to shore up the defense or prevent a total team collapse.
So, unless the Devs can determine a way to account for these less empirical aspects of team play and leadership this Tier system is nigh unto meaningless.

You make good points. Being an asset to your team is more than what kind of scores you achieve. It's called intangibles.
Sometimes while waiting for MM I think I wouldn't mind horrribly if there was no ranking system at all. Just balance the team by weight and keep the clan/Is ratio about the same. MM would be a lot quicker then I bet.
