Poor Joshua. A casualty before he really even had a chance.

Isis Marik is part of the new generation of Inner Sphere nobility along with such notables as Victor Steiner-Davion, Hohiro Kurita and Sun-Tzu Liao. Her entire life was a struggle in the midst of the political turmoil that began shortly after the War of 3039. As an illegitimate child of the heir to the Free Worlds League, Thomas Marik, she was raised in secret to prevent embarassment. But after the apparent assassination of her father and Janos Marik with a bomb attack in 3035, she was presented as the heir to the throne. The parliament of the Free Worlds League complicated matters by raising the legal technicality of her inheriting the throne: her father had not formally succeeded his father (as they both died at the same time). Things would change when her father reappeared in 3048, but not for the better. Her half-brother Joshua Marik was born legitimately that same year and took her place in the order of succession. (The healthy remark in the press release is optimistic, as Joshua soon developed leukemia -- the treatment of which by doctors on New Avalon at the request of Hanse Davion would ultimately lead to the FedCom Civil War.)

Can one be born legitimately as next in line when born to a body double?

I think it's strange that it's almost universally accepted that the leader of any given nation or planet has to be of one royal bloodline or another. +50 points to the Clans.

She didn't kill the doppelganger heir. I doubt she was even around when he was diagnosed with cancer.

Isis seemed to be a victim of circumstance if anything. At one time she was in-line to lead the FWL and that fell through, then she was engaged to the Chancellor of the Capellan Confederation, then that fell through (after he tried to kill her). In the end she had to settle for marrying Victor Steiner-Davion, the poor girl...

Hardly. She took the Sun Tzu dismissal badly and actually saved Victor's "lady friend" from assassination on the first time around. She later gave him a kick in the pants when he was morning the loss of Omiko from the later successful assassination. She seemed like a pretty classy gal to me.

Uhhm who can only be led by warriors with Bloodnames...

So -50 to the clans. They're no different.

Yeah, we all can see the lessons from the past where voting random people into office worked sooo much better... Additonally one has to take into consideration that at least on paper not all IS states are monarchies. Though the lines get blurry fast there.

"Military command higher than galaxy commander rests with the Clan Council. Each caste of a Clan is governed by a Caste Council. The warrior caste council is also the Clan Council which rules the entire affairs of the Clan and Clan law. This council is self elected and is ALMOST always made up of Bloodnamed warriors." The clans recognize that not all great leaders need to be great warriors.

Yeah, a democratic society ehh? The IS Nobility is pretty much the same. While there are differences in culture, the end result is the same. Power ruless. The Clans are certainly not a non class based society, if anything, they're MORE class based.

Hence my, "the irony is rich" comment. That's like a black hole calling a kettle black.

A little off topic but I think it would be nice if InnerSphereNews got his own custom forum avatar or something.
