Actually many Russian/Slavic immigrants, at least in North America, have begun to drop the gender alternating a suffix as the generations go on as it is not common here. The same goes with the father's name becoming the sons last name in many cultures, this also stops changing as immigrant populations become integrated into a larger society around them that doesn't practice the same cultural norms.
