So newegg.com has a pretty extensive Black Friday sale. Obviously none of the new GTX 9 series cards are on it, but what I am wondering is if the price drops on say the R9 290 cards is worth it even with the 970 and 980 being full retail?
Specifically: http://www.newegg.co...697&ignorebbr=1
With the added power draw on the R9 cards compared to the GTX970, I am wondering if the price point justifies the performance hit. Are these AMD cards still experiencing the artifacts?
I am pushing myself toward the GTX970, but is this a deal that shouldn't be passed up?

It really depends on what you want now and for the future. A 290 I think is enough for 1080p as would be a 970. Getting the 970 though would allow you to upgrade later to two 970s if you decide to do something like 4k gaming in the future.
I wouldn't really worry too much about particular defects with that card, as it comes with a lifetime warranty. There are more reliable 290s but none with a warranty that good.
If you do go with that 290, you can drop the price by $25 more with a VISA checkout (promo code: NAFVC25)

Think I will wait for my tax return and grab the GTX980. This 650Ti has lasted me this long, I am sure it can last another couple of months.

I have a GTX780Ti Superclocked, which is very similar performance wise to the GTX980. Bang for the buck the 290x for black friday prices cannot be beat. I think I saw one for $260. $260 for a 290x or $240 for a 290, compared to the $500 plus for a 980? You are spending twice the money but not getting 2x the performance. I understand wanting an NVIDIA GPU, the 980 runs cooler and uses less power and the 290/290x card run hot. Still I don't think you will go wrong with a 290 or 290x, especially at these prices.

I think I am just trying to talk myself out of buying right now. Been doing it for 6 months. My 650Ti is still going strong. Can't run at ultra high settings, but can get 60fps with everything high except particles and shadows at medium. Would like to see the beauty with those up higher, but it doesn't hurt my gameplay as is.
The only real thing that makes me want the 290X is the wider bus.

TIGERDIRECT.com!!!!!!! Buy via Paypal get $25 off the order of $100 or more.
I got the last one it's 'out of stock'
A wonderful deal for an older top tier card. The Sapphire R9 270x 4G @ $130 instead of it's normal ~$200 sale price. List $299
Video Cards this Black Friday/ Cyber Monday? NVIDIA and AMD are both offering game bundles.
I think AMD's bundle is better by allowing you to chose 1-3 games from a huge list.
Make sure you price out your card at Tigerdirect vs Newegg vs Amazon vs Google Shopping before you purchase.
I'll offer that tip after a full day of online shopping (on T Day) for the best & cheapest upgrade from a GTS 250....

Although the 270X would be an upgrade for me, it isn't enough of an upgrade. My last 3 GPUS - 9800GS, Radeon HD5670, GTX650Ti - all three middle of the road GPUs at the time. All three were sub $200 at the time as well. I want to get a big one this time.
Still, I don't understand why NVidia's new cards are only 256bit. Well, actually, I do understand. Next year they will come out with something else that will be 512bit and everyone will grab those. It will be just the same card with a wider bus for 4K.

Don't care much about the games, not interested in any of those. Wish you could save your one free.
I liked the AMD offerings more: Star Citizen and the new Civ.
Thanks for the info though. Appreciate the feedback.

Keep in mind, that's Star Citizen with a ship that should be around $60 when it gets released beyond the AMD promo. That's a hugely valuable deal, which is why a lot of people are putting down cash for the extras on Ebay (I paid $30 for one of the AMD Mustangs, and I already had the game!)
