Please change the new cooldown sound on medium lasers; it's laughably bad.

Not sure how this one snuck through the eye of the needle, considering most of the sounds in the game are high quality...but this one is needs to go ASAP.

PLEASE NOTE: I like the idea of having a cooldown sound effect to let you know when you can fire again...just not this new goofy-sounding one. It sounds like a cheap/plastic slide whistle or a child's toy, instead of a sophisticated and highly technological instrument of death.

Thank you for making this topic. I installed the patch, went to testing grounds and first thing I did was look for a forum topic about this. Bring back the old sound please. Hotfix now!

I am usually an ardent supporter of the Devs, but I am truly struggling to contain myself right now. I will do my best to make an eloquent argument regarding these lasers.

Point 1: I like MW:O because it brings a more gritty realistic feel to the somewhat cartoony BattleTech universe (stop flaming me, you know it's true in some of the older material.) This new laser sound completely breaks with that.

Point 2: For large lasers especially, I really LIKED the slow way they felt. I ran with them on a Stalker, and the large lasers were like slow marching death. It made everything feel somewhat slow paced and awesomely powerful. Now that I have constant sound, the recharge cycle feels shorter, which is annoying to me. I really LIKED having a slow paced death stomper instead of some annoying WoW-like sound scheme with constant noise. The new noise does not feel powerful at all.

That's as far as I can go, I give up, I can't make a coherent eloquent post. Please fix this, or I will actually quit the game. I've never said that before. It really is that bad.

where's the 'emphatic no' button? I think the sound makes it easier to notice the reload - it's one of the things I like about the AC10... I'm an auditory kind of guy, so having a prominent, specific recharge sound is a big boon for me.

Two sides to every coin, mate.

I have no problem with "a" sound to mark end of recycle time, in fact that's one reason I like the AC10 and M. Pulse so much. It's just this particular sound I really can't stand. I stopped playing tonight because it hurts my ears it's so bad. At least until I can fiddly with the equalizer on my sound card to try and nullify that tone as much as possible.

So...are you saying you actually like the sound effect? Or just the idea of ANY sound effect for cooldown?

Resounding no.

I love it. It doesn't sound cheap to me at all. Rather it sounds industrial, like the whine of a big turbine.

I think it's a huge improvement, personally.

The current cool down sound for lasers is just damn silly. It is like a sound effect from a Duck Dodgers 24th and a half century cartoon, He Man, or Zoids. Look them up kids. They need to be changed to some thing more in line with the battletech setting. The old pulse laser sound effect was a good choice.

Hurts .. ears? Wut...

So i read all the complaints about it while downloading the Patch after work, So first thing i did was drop into the Training Zone on my Spider expecting it to be super amazingly horrible.

......And i was like, wha? ok hang on, lemme jack the volume a bit ... and then i heard it. A faint electronic 'whine' i suppose, Its a low tone, at low volumes, and chaining my MLasers i can barely hear it, and now after about 6 matches in that Spider, i've grown to use that little recharge sound as a determination when i can fire again, rather than glancing down at the weapon window. (i use a 42" HDTV though >_>)

So i ask again, wut? How is it that its causing these horrible reactions of ear bleeds and brain explosions? Its a very low undertone that triggers after the ML fires .. And for the record, i play with a 5.1 surround with a PS3 gaming chair jacked into it, so the speakers are literally inches from my ears, and its a pleasant sound for me.

when i think of a lasser cool down sound i imagine a bassy low sounding wind fis .. Pffffhhhhsss , something sort of like what you hear on halo when then covenant plasma riffles overheat on that game but lower toned and bassy.

the current cool down soiund, like other's have said, makes me think toy light gun or something simiarly weak in comparison.

Changing the Poll to follow the rules for suggestion polling.
http://mwomercs.com/...estion-polling/

Can't change it to a public poll anymore. So this will be an exception for now.

I suppose if you think big industrial turbines sound like plastic slide whistles:

I quite like it, it's a distinctive sci-fi "charging" sound. Granted, I knew from the first time I heard it that many(or most) people would dislike it so I was already prepared for when it gets sucked out of the game inevitably due to negative public outcry.

Depending on which laser, I would argue that electrical system should have a higher pitched whine (small laser would sound higher then large laser, for example).

When I heard the new recharge sound my first thought was "that's rather tacky"
Why spend time and effort recreating sounds that already work fine

Hot Fix
Bring back the old sound please
(Oh and bring Community warfare too

At first I thought "it's not great, but kinda cool and ok"

Now it just annoys me, its too loud, to obnoxious, and it makes me want to not fire my lasers.

and thats not cool.

definitely too loud. More subtle, like the ammo reload sound, something that when its quiet, you hear it, but in battle it gets lost. right now its just overpowering, and it's too high pitched.
