Modern Military planners have deemed a 3:1 ratio "ideal" for minmizing one`s own losses. Lower increases the risk of falure + casualties significantly, higher increases the chance of success but alsoincreases the (proportional) casualties.
As those versed in clan lore know, the commander that bids the lowest "gets the job (done?)"
Clan commanders are (theoretically) somewhat well versed in history and also know about the 3:1 ratio. The idea being that they will let the enemy fight under what thea believe to be ideal circumstances or reasons of pride /humiliation.

*Actual IDEA and truly important part of the post*
SOOO: give us clanners our weapons and equipment as the current implementation of the Rules would allow /dictate, and make us drop in PUG as a 4-mech lance vs 3 IS lances or as 8/12 mans against an equal number of clanners (except for some dort of definable match in user CW where another ratio is deemed appropriatedue to "whatever")..

(Dis?)advantages
Those that want an "easy game" have no significant motivation to "go clan" unless it`s somehow totally unbalanced due to unforseen issues with weapons or eqiuipment (or us truly being that much better

Those that praise the clans as superior mechwarriors (IC or OOC) get the chance to "put their chassis where their mouth is".
Those that misguidedly believe IS philosophy will have nothing to fear from the ratio. Good mechwarriors should make a 3:1 difference with slightly superior arms fair.
Look at it this way: we´re not talking an Indepenence Day technological difference here, between a type 0 and a type 3 society (a type 1 beiong a "planetary" society able to fully control all aspects of tehir planet, type 2 being able to harness the power of a sincle star /solar system, and type 3 being multi-system /galactic. All those in BT lore essentially being type 2+ and therefore never 100% destroyable by current scientific definition) and a type there are numerous occasions in canon where the IS won, and the did eventually prove "superior" overall"... This is Type 2-3 society vs Type 2-3 society.
We`re talking more along the lines of the technological differnce between USA ans Russia during the height of the Cold War, with the IS being Russia and in my 3:1 suggestion outnumbering the actual russian "horde" ratio by a factor of more than 2 (Russia had approx. 1.3 times as many overall units as the USA and 1.1x as many as NATO).
Those that play clan in PUG will truly become better mechwarriors used to being outnumbered, which would essentially make the game more immersive with regard to lore, especially for those casuals that don`t use the forums or really care for more than "dakkadakka-schwoosh-BLAM!", with or without friends. You at some point know that when you`re going up against clanners, they truly are to be feared because even in 12:4 they will everyone apart if you take them lightly.
Those of us that truly believe in themselves and the clans will see it as a welcome challenge. Give me a PUG that`s unskilled enough and I will learn to take them out alone in my Dire Wolf, and if I have to get out and and kil the scouts with my fracking sidearm, it WILL happen.

Just an idea I got while watching a few things about modern warfare with regards to the future. I`m hoping I`m not the only one that likes it.
PS: Sorry if parts seem incoherent, I`m actually quite drunk as I type this
