I have to say for some time I had become skeptical as to whether this game would ever see the light of day, and while another stand-alone game released on multiple platforms sounded great, this is really a much better option. I think this is what many of us have wanted for years. A progressive timeline, persistant universe, community factions and involvement in the larger war(perhaps economy?).

That being said I have talked to huge numbers of people that I have not seen in years, some in over a decade. Outside of my own connections I have seen countless groups of people reuniting from all over the BT community. MPBT, MW2-3-4 leagues, MegaMek, Virtual World Pod players, MPBT:3025, Mechcommander, Community Projects.....the list goes on.

Personally it has put a smile on my face to log onto these fourms and be seeing some of these people! Earlier today I got a private message from my original CO from a Mercnet/Netmech unit on the ZoneIPX. I meen this guy taught me how to lagshoot when I was 9 years old. I hadent heard from him since the MW4 Vengeance days.

Furthurmore I have seen the players of MPBT, probably the tightest nit community in gaming history, come out in droves. Honestly I was young in those days but ill never forget walking through solaris streets in MPBT and finally getting into a drop and immidiatly blasting my team mates and getting torn apart. I was 8 or so and one blunder of a drop had me hooked for life.

I went on to play in many Netmech and Mercnet leagues. I played in the Starlance MW3 league in some of the top units. I played MPBT and MPBT 3025, MW4, Mechcommander, Mechassault 1+2 and have my 50 missions pin in the pods. I have met many freinds and rivals over the course of that time and over the last few days an old spark has been rekindled.

I think the death of MPBT and the gameplay of MW4 really did a number on this community, but we are resiliant as can be witnessed by all the warm reunions across these fourms over the last few days. A million missed anouncements and failed fan projects have jaded many, despite that, the fans are flocking in from all communities.

This has been an extremely nostalgic and exciting time.

I know it was a struggle to even get this process going, and compromises had to be made for this game to see the light of day. I dont make much money, im still in college but I would easily pay 20 a month just to have something and as you stated its something we the fans will have an input in, unlike with previous titles that were left unpatched and were extremely difficult to mod, thus no changes occured and many times no content was added. Im sure you guys are just as big of fans as us and I am glad this is in your hands.

On behalf of us who have been waiting, lurking on fourms posting of days of past glories and conquest,
We thank you, you have brought back a joy that has connected many thousands over the years and has all but faded from our memories.

We hope and wish you the best of luck in this process and I personally am keeping the faith that this time we wont be let down.

Im a rational individual with a very busy life and meanigful relationships both romantic and domestic. At 26 im still young and adventerous in good health/shape. I say all that as pretext to make it sound a little less pathetic when I say the following about a video game:

You have our hopes and dreams in your hands.

What he said.

Seriously, this was beautiful, and I hope the guys see it. Maybe when I get a little more time, I'll do something similar; write how MechWarrior has affected me, how it has meant to so much to my life. I DEEPY regret never having hopped in a pod before, and having very little online play (poor system specs), but MechWarrior (BattleTech, if you count the novels. Never had the money/people for the tabletop game) is definitely my number one fiction out there. I always argue (usually to myself, because he's the only one who will listen) that the BattleTech fiction is just as good, if not better, than the other big names in sci-fi out there. I like aliens as much as the next guy (I love the ME universe), but there's something about the "we are alone in the universe" theme behind all of this that I love, not to mention how deep it is. I'm a science-fiction fan, but I'm a huge "hard science fiction" fan. No sound in space, no teleportation, no "energy shields" (I'm looking at you, MA), and even the FTL fiction is super-limited. Still takes days between the jump-point and planet, not to mention recharging.

>.< Sheesh, I went a lot longer than I meant to. Sorry, mate, your post got me all fired up. Again, I give this two thumbs up, and I hope to see you on the battlefield. Whether I'm shooting with you or at you, we're going to be a part of one of the best communities out there.

Until this game was announced I honestly believed I was the only person on this Earth that remembers MPBT.

It is pretty amazing just how huge of a community that has existed, sleeping, just waiting for... something.

Couldn't have said it better.

Thank you for not giving up on this franchise, or the people that play it.

Well said Andrew well said. I think the coolest thing so far is we don't even know how far along the game is, where it stands and how it will turn out but the amount of fans, pilots, and friends linking up all over again is pretty awesome. Goes to show you that once you've played any of the games in the series or just read some of the books that it was produced well enough to get you hooked for life. If nothing else it's put a spotlight on the community and no we may not be as big of a base as wow but I think somebody out there will start to see a profitable community here and the game will succeed if at nothing else bringing the community and old friends back together. For me the thought of capturing just some of the fun I had from mw2 to 4 would be cool. I hope they do a system that has units you create in the game function as something other than a clan tag on your name. But if nothing else grouping up and shooting each other will rock and I'm sure there's somebody who will turn it into a league of some sort (hint hint).

MechWarrior brings back fond memories for me too. My brother and I would share the keyboard and mouse as we went into dangerous missions in MechWarrior 2. We did not have two computers at the time! I agree with the OP except for the $20 month part.

OP

Well said.

My wife and I first started playing NetMech 95 on Kali back in '97. Played in GC and M3L. We eventually moved to Starleague as well. It's been nice seeing old faces here.

This game really has me jazzed.

I am not sure that anything else even needs to be said. Some of the posts here have been very eloquent. But I do seem to notice a lack of the original boxed set back in the 80's, the first release of Technical Readout 3025. Etc. etc. I attended my very first Gaming Convention back in 1986 I think it was, heck, it might have even been earlier than that. Since that very first Con I have been hooked on the Battletech Universe. Every TRO, Sourcebook, Tech Manuals, House Books, probably close to 500 pounds of miniatures, then on to the Crescent Hawks Inception, Crescent Hawks Revenge and all of the other versions of every computer game revolving around the B'Tech Universe, ALL of the novels, and I do mean all of them, even read the Dark Age novels. Battletech has been a huge part of my life, and I was beginning to think I was alone. Sure I see hundreds of people still playing in the MekTek servers, but more and more, they use hacks and cheats to totally take the fun out of everone else's experience. I even try to get the groups and Clans there to actually Role Play, but mostly, it falls on deaf ears, they just want to be the machine, not the meat. LOL Remember that? "Kill the meat, save the metal."
Thanks again from the likes of me, the "Old Schoolers", Those of us who played years long table top campaigns, and ran our own Mercenary units long before anyone had ever heard of Outreach, before we knew where the Dragoons actually came from.
Our hats (Neuro-Helmets) are off to you, as we anxiously await the start date.

That's EXACTLY the strength. The community that's come together just from a couple of art pieces and a forum saying "we're got something coming." That is BattleTech. That is the fiction, the community we follow and cherish. I hope to be on this board for years to come, to keep with the community spirit, but as you said, I hope the devs work on a more integrated community system within the game so we can keep up with each other. While I'd certainly prefer stronger communication within my own Merc unit, I'd definitely like an option for faction/House-wide chat, and even messaging other houses. But yes, this game is about stomping BattleMechs of awesomeness, and about the amazing fiction behind it, but just as important is the community it creates. Rock on, MechWarrior.

I don't know how you do what you do, and still keep up with us rabid fans. You're a testament to the BattleTech/MechWarrior universe, and it couldn't be in better hands. I look forward to seeing you guys on the battlefield as well.

Very well said. I couldn't agree more and your story sounds a lot like my story and I'm sure a lot of people on here can say the same.

Isin't crazy how a simple video game can summon up so much emotion within people? All this nostalgic excitement we are all feeling.
Definitely something special about this game and the community it has created. Thanks for caring about that enough to push this game forward despite all the obstacles in your path.

For the record I also have a life a wife and other hobbies ...I don't even play video games at all actually aside from a little bit of wii with my wife.

Mechwarrior is just so much more than a video game! :)
