I'm one of the few or many that have had an issue with the MWO patcher/game not detecting my internet connection. And, I have torn my PC down to the bare essentials to understand what caused MWO to not work on my system. And in doing so I have sent many emails to MWO support. And most of what I have recieved from them is PC 101. And I have followed all of their suggestions and replied with acurate information each step along the path. This is a Beta release, is it not? And would you think that the devs would want their game to work on as many platforms as possible? I dunno. Seems to me they may have reached the end of their smiling customer service phase and are heading straight into "let's cut out the hard work and take what money we have and run". If you search the forums you will find others with the same issue, "no network connection detected". Even though on my machine uTorrent, msft checkers, messenger, ftp client, chrome, World of Tanks, Diablo, all work. Just poor misunderstood MWO has some issues. I'm pissed. The first time I stipped 1TB of crap off of my system just to find that unplugging and replugging in my wireless modem would fix it. Something in the Dotnet platform is being broken by MWO. A repair and restart will fix the connection issue as well. Well now after trashing my system I added a new SSD and did a fresh install of WIn 7 and my drivers again. Well guess what/ MWO would not work again. And this time it would NOT work. I sent MWO Support an email and this is what I got back,"

Hello Robert,

I'm honestly not sure I can give you any more help on this. I understand you're using cellular networks to get internet access, and this is already beyond what we can support. I do understand other applications are working fine, however those applications aren't under our control. The issue IS open with the devs, however I'm not certain what they can do.

If you have the option to connect to the internet through a real internet connection as opposed to a cellular network, this would allow us to isolate whether or not this is the issue. This is probably the most important and useful test we can make at this point. No 4G, no WiFi, just straight broadband connection to the internet.

To make a long story short: I'd love to offer you more options, more ideas, but unfortunately there's only so much we can do with a limited cellular network connection. The fact that there were hiccups with other applications in the past further supports the case that there's an issue with how your Windows OS is handling the internet connection of your 4G adapter, or with the adapter itself. One of the logs you had presented in the past did mention something about Broadcomm - if this is the brand of your 4G adapter, it could be a sign.

Well guess what, I don't give up so easily. It turns out IE10 is incompatible with MWO. After uninstalling IE10 and roling back to IE9 the MWO patcher works fine again. Seriuosly, it's time MWO take seriously the bugs in the game. You want me and others to spend money on this game? Then when I say something doesn't work right you do your best to figure it out. Or, I will bet good money that this will be the shortest living mechwarrior game ever released. I'm pissed and I aint taking any more.

I lost you somewhere around the point you said you were using IE 10. There's a t-shirt someone gave me a long time ago back in the day that says "Beta Testing is for Sissies". It seems some people aren't even able to muster up that much resilience nowadays.

So IE10 was causing the issue, and you're 100% on that? Funny, since I have IE10 installed, and haven't had a single issue connecting to the game since CB back in July of last year.

Me thinketh you are like 3/4ths of my tech support calls. Clueless, yet in your mind you know all.

totally just ***** and moan about the level of support you got rather than provide a descriptive rundown on what the problem is and what you've tried so far to fix it to get some outside imput.

no realy...

and Ditto Elliot, i also work in IT support and have to deal with ragers of all sorts that think they know everything and 9/10 the problem is caused by them doing something wrong/extreamly freakin weird.

It's to the point that i use mspaint and take screenshots with red circles around the important bits to save myself pain later. Some still manage to **** up with those tho :|

MWO doesn't run smoothly on my computer ! It will kill the game ! I'm quitting !

https://mwomercs.com...age__p__2020518

But seriously:
For each and every game out there, there will be people (and computers) for whom it wont work. That's actually the biggest drawback that PC-games have over console games. There are too many configurations to be able to guarantee that a program will work on each and every machine out there.

Yes, it would be nice if the support would be able to help you and I can understand your frustration. I've had some contact with support before and usually you get "pre-written" answers (not complaining here, my own "tickets" where standard stuff). This one looks like they really wanted to help you but couldn't solve it out.

Like I said, I can understand your frustration but you can't expect miracles.

And no, you having this issue will NOT be the beginning of the end for MWO.

I have to say the email reply seems pretty courteous and professional, and from your candor in this post OP, I'm guessing you only exacerbated the situation. Also seeing how the few technical assertions you made in the post are entirely wrong, I'd suggest you go back over your PC fundamentals, I'll bet the root of your previous issues is there somewhere and upon finding it you may realize you're unfairly bashing this crew. Ultimately remember this service is FREE and IN BETA!!! They don't owe you an explanation, nor are they required to abase themselves in order to appease you, especially when you're running a rather odd confirguration. If you expect them to god hand you're obtuse internet connection, perhaps you should be fully versed its in integration first.

Just for the record, I have IE10 installed (although not the default browser) and I've no problems with MWO.

This. I have IE 10.x, Chrome 25.x and Firefox 19.x installed with no issues whatsoever.

Sometimes uninstalling MWO and then re-installing it gets through recurring patching issues. I had to do that last month's patch.

Just to link the thread on his original post.

http://mwomercs.com/...keeps-breaking/

There may have been an issue with IE10 on the fresh install and the patching of MWO, as noted in the current thread, though noted in the here and in the posted thread it is that instead of reinstalling a dotnet he was able to get it to work by unplugging and plugging back in his USB cellular connection after receiving the no connection message after playing for awhile.

What has not been done is to force the cellular connection to run at 3G instead of 4G for troubleshooting purposes.

And truth be told, MWO would be small, nothing like what SOE's EQ/EQ2/PS2/etc staff but they have run into network issues/connectivity issues that have been outside of their control, there was not much they could do. I could provide several examples, in the end though the customer had to look closer at home (for some issues) be it switching out the brand of modem so they had more control, ISP, or instruct their ISP to remove them from a particular group setting (AT&T Inverse comes to mind), or wait for a regional ISP (issue was in MS area) to track down and fix a router group that was working only part of the time.

Just saying...there is a point where a game's IT/CS can go only so far.
