It would be interesting to have opposite of Ferro-fibrous armor which is extra heavy but dosen't take any slots.

Like 6-12 tons heavier than standart armor (depending on mech size) but 14% denser .

sexy upgrade for XL Engine if you end up having extra tons

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this...

Pretty sure standard armor doesn't take any critical slots in your 'mech.

So basically: it's heavier, but you would have a higher armor cap?

I'm not sure what you are suggesting either

There is Modular Armor, but it still takes up 1 crit and 1 ton. Armor, no matter what requires available tonnage or crit space.

And Modular armor is basically like an extra armor plate that is placed in front of another surface, so it protects the armor or surface from getting hit unless the modular piece is destroyed first:

There is also Hardened Armor, which is the "heavy armor" of Battle Tech. It absorbs twice as much damage as regular armor, and protects against armor piercing ammuntion, but drastically slows the vehicle or Mech it is attached to.

im guessing he means make it more compact, which would let you put more dmg points worth of armor on your mech while taking up the same space, but it would also be heavier, hence not taking up critical spots while still increasing your max armor

same dmg absorption per ton, just letting you put ore of it in the same space, right?????

think of it as more armor then the normal max, smashed into the same size as the regular max amount of armor

14% higher at each part like FF armor without taking critical slots . So its kinda like super dense compact metal.

It dosen't take any more space . Its a denser metal so it gives more protection . So all you need is to have 6-12 free tons to equip it and youll get 14% more armor all around (you don't actually need to increase armor cup because it takes same ammount of space ).

I think it be pretty cool to have any of those .

A while ago I proposed a new component.

Modular Armor
Critical Space = 1
Tons = 1
Adds 16 pts of armor to a section, while also increasing sections maximum armor by 16.
Compatible with standard and ferro-fibrous armor types

Note: 1 ton of standard armor gives 32 points of protection, so this component is 50% as effective as regular for offering raw protection and uses a critical space.

the number for how much armor you put on is how many points of dmg it can take, so technically you would be increasing the cap, this would be an interesting alternative to ff, heavies might like it, ff saves weight if you have room, lights have room, this armor adds defense if you have spare tonnage, and heavies and assaults have spare tonnage

read this forum, we talked about similar stuff

modular armor would be interesting...

We have a bit of a wait for either technology based on the timeline. It's 3050 now, and Modular Armor appears in 3070.

i can see that working well, reflective good against lasers, reactive good against ballistics and maybe missiles
