I think that instead of capping one single point to win the game there's a building which the enemy team has to destroy. This way, a single light couldn't win an entire game single handedly just because the defending team is too far away. This would improve the game type by encouraging offensiveness and aggression instead of punishing it. For example if you just sat on your base defending it the enemy team could potentially destroy your building with long range firepower and missiles. The best way to win is by going out and fighting the enemy team and trying to destroy their base. The best part of this is when your team kills all but one or two members of the enemy team they cant practically turn around and win by standing in a square on the edge of the map.

So in summary instead of a point to capture there's a building. The building has some crazy high amount of armor and it can be targetted for the purposes of LRM's given that at least one team member has line of sight. First team to destroy the enemy building or wipe out every mech on the other team wins.

This is a good Idea, if not for assault then for another game type. just to add a thought, you would still need to have the one mech be able to destroy the base or building. It just may take a long time to do so.

Nice

Remove cap from Assault to fix mode. You want to cap something go play Conquest.

That's team deathmatch. We all would rather play TDM than the two modes that currently exist. Like, all of us. We can't have it for some reason so we might as well make suggestions to improve the existing game modes.

The only problem with this idea is, how would you stop the enemy team from simply standing at the other side of the map (or atleast a nice distance away) and just Hit-and-Run the base with PPC's/Gauss etc etc.

Also... I dunno, I kinda like the idea that, when the brutal fight has ended, and you only have 1 guy left alive, arms blown off, only 1 weapon remaining etc, against something like, 4 full HP Atlas's, it's nice that he can make a desperate run for their base and still have a small chance at winning. Guess that's just me though :/

If you're team gets wiped out to the point that you have one guy left with all his weapons blown off, who do you really think earned that victory?

The biggest problem with assault is it doesn't promote actual combat. The most effective way to win is to wait for the opponent to leave his base and then cap it before he can get back. If assault had bases like what I'm proposing you're forced to fight the enemy team just for the reason of enemies who can hit you from long range and hit and run. Turtling on your base isn't a viable tactic as compared to how it is now which is the most competitive way to play assault.

A possible solution.
Base have a fairly high base HP and HP regeneration when no other mech is within capping range. The HP regeneration could be around 10 DPS with a base HP of, say, 1000 HP. So unless you have another mech within capping range, you'll probably need 4 mechs on continuous focus fire to destroy the base.
This also have the side effect that capping with a slower, heavy hitter mech can offer some advantage (damage faster).

If your match ended like that... either the ELO messed up or you shouldn't win like that under assault.

This is a great idea; as you said it would make it impossible for a single light Mech to capture the base alone.

I would take this one step further, just to make absolutely sure that the above scenario becomes untenable. The way I would do this is by arming the base (This has already been suggested in a number of the base development threads) with at least one AMS to suppress LRM barrages and probably a Medium Pulse Laser (AI controlled) to make the environment a little hostile.
