My proposal is thus:
- 24 players total evenly divided into two teams
- One team is the attacking a fortified base, and the other team is trying to defend.
- The attacking team nominates a player to drive a colossal weight siege mech.
- The defenders are trying to either destroy the colossal mech, or keep it from breaching their fortifications for ten minutes.
- Ten minutes is six hundred or so turns on the tabletop, in case you were wondering.
- The matchup between team advantages would break down like this:
- Attacker:
- Massive, yet slow killing machine
- onboard artiliery from the colossal mech
- checkpoint-based spawn locations
- Yes, respawning
- When you 'respawn' you select one of your four readied mechs to drop with
- If the idea of "infinate respawns" seems repugnant, opt for a ticket-based system instead
- Yes, respawning
- Activities to speed the assault
- deploy bridges, blast holes in walls, lower gates, etc.
- Massive, yet slow killing machine
- Defender
- Fortifications
- Static turrets/minefields
- Possibly placeable/controlable by the team captain
- Static turrets/minefields
- "activities" to slow down/damage the colossal mech
- keep bridges from being lowered, EMP lasers, etc.
- Said activities are contestable by the attackers, providing areas of strategic and tactical conflict
- keep bridges from being lowered, EMP lasers, etc.
- Slightly faster respawn timer than the attackers
- Fortifications
- Neutral
- Capturable, limited use mechbays to repair/reload
- extremely limited uses, perhaps two or three at most
- never a full repair/reload
- extremely limited uses, perhaps two or three at most
- Capturable, limited use mechbays to repair/reload
- Attacker:
Edit: After searching the forums around, I noticed I'm not the first person to think this up, but I still think it's an awesome game mode idea. And the most recent thread that was similar was eaten alive by grognards crying about their sacred weight classes and ruining battletech and
