Given a stock/hardcore game mode is not in PGI's plan, would you play Semi-Stock Mech games in a NON-COMPETITION environment if all players used the following customization rule:

You can change anything on a Mech except its Weapon Systems.

Posted Image

Ammo, Equipment, Armor Distribution, and Uprades can be customized.

This rule gives us "semi-stock" mechs that we can all validate when targeting our opponents.

There was a poll a while ago where a 70% of the people who responded of people expressed interest in a stock mech only game mode (http://mwomercs.com/...only-game-mode/), but PGI doesn't have this in their road map at this time.

I'd rather see a 3025 play mode. Slight tweaks to the weapons/armor, but no endo steel, no ferro fibrous, no double heat sinks, no gauss, no streaks, no AMS, no ECM...

Granted, no DHS would require PGI to rethink their heat model, as SHS are completely not viable.

I would play a STOCK only game sure, but not semi-stock.

I play mechwarrior for the customization. It is the only game out there that allows this number of effective choices. I have no wish to ignore the main draw of this game.

I'd play it, but probably only if they removed the clearly superior builds. If the entire point is to create a low cost mech battleground it's idiotic to then add in the highest spec generics. It wouldn't be as dramatic as stock v custom, but the different between the best and worst stock mechs is not small.

They few passable weapon armament mechs would be the only ones played, just like currently with the "best" variants.
That said it would probably still be fun for a while.

actually, most of my mechs are "semi-stock".

I free up space for more ammo/heatsinks but I usually keep the same weapons. You'd be surprised how effective a jagermech is with enough ammo, armor, HS and dual AC/5 AC/2.

Same with the atlas or stalker. The fun thing is that you can fire multiple weapon systems at the same target. No longer in visual contact? Use LRMs. It dares get in your face? Lasers + SRMs.

It's a lot more fun that way IMO than boating stuff.

well this suggestion isn't for you then. Some of us want to play the canon roles of the mechs and care little about customization.

Once the game was stable enough for me to play, I'd love this.

Only thing I'd ask is that no ECM mechs.

I currently run a mech that comes very close to these rules. It is the same mech I've used since the later part of closed beta-- a CPLT-C1. Even with the missile damage nerf, I still frequently pull 400-600 damage games, and the only weapon swap was a medium laser switched to a TAG. Nothing else is stock, which is why it is effective.

There are actually very few stock mechs that wouldn't be great in this type of game mode-- with weapons designed for tabletop rules, the freedom to adjust speed, armor, and heat sinks would allow them to be competitive in MWO without everything being a boat (there would still be munchbacks). This is a good idea; hopefully the devs will implement something similar.

And that's fine, games are to have fun and you'll have more fun in this mode than I would. The question is would I play something like this. My answer is no and I gave my reasons.

I would play stock VS stock yes any day of the week. But first we need this---------------------> PGI will not listen to common sense they will persist with there random generated FFA drops and no matter how many times we all tell them the older ladder/planetary type league's used a chat/launcher platform to socialize recruit train and drop in groups of 2v2-12v12.Or even for solo 1v1 games. This was what worked the best for the MechWarrior IP and generated thousands of teams ranging from 20-1000 players per team 30+ 24/7 leagues serviced the millions of MechWarrior's from all over the world. But hey why go with a old proven method when you can build a new ELO MM that has proven to be a failure in the past? This is what we need---------------->>>>>>>>>>>> Posted Image

No, big no. Customization is one of the main things Mechwarrior differentiates itself from other games...

I would also like a hardcore mode with 3025, 3050, etc. timeline/tech restriction options also, but again even if the devs confirm these as options it would be so far away in the future, that I want to get people together to play semi-stock.

Given your second point, semi-stock may be even closer to canon stock than the MWO stock mech designs...want to do the math?

There would be even less variety on the field with a stock only game-mode because theres some loadouts that are clearly superior to others.

So far out of the people that have answered yes, only 20% of them would take the OP/superior mods.

I would definitely be up for some stock games. I feel less enthusiastic about semi-stock though. I realise that the nature of MWO has resulted in some stock variants just being downright easier to perform with than others, but I'd rather take my lumps and play with a simple 'pure stock' rule than get complicated.
