I have been a MW4 player for over a decade (also played multiplayer when the server was up).
I'm used to setting the mouse to turn my mech, and setting the keyboard for torso twisting. Is there a way to customize the controls for this? If not, this would be my suggestion. The controls are way too frustrating the way it is.
On the bright side, I am glad to see there's an invert y-axis option.

Mouse For Turning, Keyboard For Torso Twisting

I like the invert y axis button also.
However...trying to turn with the mouse would be a huge disadvantage long term. The game allows for a much faster torso twist than turn speed, so mapping the mouse to turning would make aiming horrendously difficult.
Also, due to the dual nature of aiming (arms and torso), I don't think it would work. The torso and arms are also an analog control, whereas the turning is set up to be digital (left, right vs 20% left, etc.) This is a major problem for joysticks.
To answer your question, no, it isn't possible, and I think you should bite the bullet and get used to the game's current format because it'll be better in the long run.

Yes. Since the time of my post, I got used to the controls the way it is. I actually found out why I was feeling out of place with the controls. It's because when I look at the radar, I expect the legs of the mech to always be fixed at 12 o'clock position, while having the mech's torso twist to the sides. The way MWO has it set is to have the direction of the mech's legs turn on the radar, while keeping the mech's torso pointing towards the 12 o'clock position. It may sound complicated, but this was the reason why I encountered so much confusion at first when getting used to the controls. And still, this is the main thing that is upsetting to me in MWO. It is so non-MechWarrior to have the radar not being fixed on the legs, as in every previous MechWarrior.
So to fix that problem, I stopped looking at the radar when setting my mech up for attack angles while moving back and forth.
I have other complaints about the game. Perhaps I'll save those for another time, and another thread. And yes, I do like some things about the game.
