So I tried playing a Jager with six machine guns this weekend, and I've gotta say that it really is incredibly ineffective. Maybe there's a glitch in the crit hit calculator, but those guns seemed somewhat ineffective at tearing out mechs innards. Worse, it just seemed like I can't even tell that it's having an effect.

Maybe if the end of match showed how many crits were scored it'd get a greater feeling of satisfaction, or maybe if a single mech died I'd feel like I wasn't wasting my time trying, but right now I don't gain any sense at all that they are doing anything at all.

I really like the idea of the machine gun being a crit seeking weapon versus the armor shredder, so please try not to turn the thread into a whine over damage per second. That's not the purpose of the discussion. I'd rather talk about the crits happening, if anyone else got different results (more satisfaction), or if my experience is isolated.

Maybe when engine crits mean something it will feel more like they are useful, but I have to say that after a Saturday night of really trying to make machine guns work, I think something's off with them. In one memorable game I was fighting a catapult with no armor and couldn't strip a single weapon from the mech.

Thank you for trying it over most of the weekend rather than just a few matches. Makes ur results have more weight. I also like mg's...although cheesy, I liked the 17 Heavy Machine Guns Annihilator in MW4:Mercs. I have had similar results to yours whether it be with just 2 mg's or 6. Like you I never expect them to shred armor. I remember one match a Stalker was stuck on Forest Colony Snow and a teammate of mine and I were shooting him. The enemy mech didn't even see me so I could deliver focused fire to a torso. I only had my mg's left (4 I think), and I went thru literally 2000 rounds and did not break thru armor. But, as far as crits go overall, I never saw any components destroyed that was absolutely noticeable. I do wish that PGI would include crits both in the in-game chat and on the final scoreboard. Then we could do some real tests on whether mg's are doing what they are supposed to do.
