Follow up post to one a few weeks back with some UI 2.0 suggestions.

This is not a comprehensive list of everything that should be changed.

This is just a few key items we'd really like to see in UI 2.0.

Here are some bullet points:
  • Display a full screen of mech bays or at least several rows of bays all at once in a grid format, vertically scrollable to view the rest
  • Manual Drag-and-drop to move individual bays around to custom re-order the mechs and re-place empty bays together
  • 'Sort by' drop-down selector with ability to auto sort all your mechs by:
    • Weight Class (with all owned variants of each chassis made proximate to one another within each weight class),
    • Name A-Z,
    • Chassis A-Z
  • Mech Thumbnails in the hangar should show the actual colors and camo scheme you have on each mech
  • Display both the custom name and the official variant name for each mech
  • Ability to rename your mechs' custom names at any time
  • Remove [$] (Sell button) from the easy access overlay (to reduce accidental clicks and because this feature is not a frequent-use action). Re-purpose that space with a more frequently-used function like [R] (Rename mech). "Sell" could be located in one of the "Other Functions" "Could Go Here" buttons.
Here's a hasty mock-up showing most of those interface changes in a rough format:

How come you have so many mech bays? Isn't the hard limit equal to 8 (4 default + 4 @ MC)?

Nope. If you have the MC you can have as many as you want. There are players that have every variant of every chassis in game mastered and have several duplicate of their favorites in various configurations.

Having just a full screen for the main page would be a huge improvement :-) Also should put you right into the mech bay when you start

Must be insane amounts of MC spent in this game. I can't imagine they collected all needed C-Bills otherwise.

I currently have 41 mech bays and only 3 are empty. It's an OCD nightmare, too, since we can't currently re-arrange or rename them, and you have to scroll for days.

Not really, I have 40 mechbays with 16 mechs in them, I've only bought 2 Heroes and the rest with Cbills. All of them Heavy and Assault with the exception of the 3L and the 3M.
I also have 60 million CBills sitting around right now waiting on Highlander. Winning goes a long way towards helping with that.

I have 26 bays and 23 are filled :( Both MC and C-Bill paid. But, sure, C-Bills prevail, winning matches in hero mechs really helps even without premium :(

25 bays with 23 filled.

I am not convenced that we need fullscreen or horizontal/verticle scrolling for mechbays but having the options wouldn't hurt.

Scrolling is a huge pain. I'm going to support any improvement at this point.

I haven´t spend any real money yet ( reasons don´t belong here), so I have only 4 mechbays, but I can see how this is a serious problem for people who have more bays. And some things, like diplay of both Chassis and custom mech names would benefit others like me as well.

30 w/1 empty; three heroes and one founders, rest cbills. It's just a grind and I used to play WoW alot so this is like doing daily quests for armor repairs for my tank on tuesday raid nights.....a daily thing

I would add to this that something to allow us to see where our modules at would be really nice. It's a pain to not play for a day or so and forget where your capture or advanced sensor range module is.

Great point about modules! It's time intensive to scroll around and fine them when you have a bunch of mechs. Given that most players over time will generally start to grow a collection of mechs, these issues will become more prevalent and affect more players as time goes on. Often, something that improves the user experience or the interface for some players will provide a benefit to all players.

Another thing I would like to see is a comparrison function. Not as badwith weapons, the lsit is not so long, but for engines I realyhate having to scroll up anddown the long list, mount an engine i want to try to see what speed I gt, scroll and moutn another..tiresome.

Agree enthusiastically. If nothing else it's really silly you can't move mechs around. Makes managing them a pain.

There are a bunch of minor usability tweaks that would, all together, make a pretty big difference. I'm UI 2.0 will address at least some of these, but since I'm here:
-When you open panels like the "add a friend" box the text box should automatically receive focus so you can click "add" and just start typing
-A lot of competant players don't realize that you left click names in the social panel to open the context menu. If it's gonna be left click, there should be a button. Otherwise it should use right click like every other application in the universe.
-It's really unituitive that you have to open the social panel to get to the launch button. The button should probably appear next to the Ready button. Alternatively, just don't require the group leader to be Readied, since readiness is implied by clicking the damn launch button.
-The mechlab could really use some kind of text group chat. Without it, there's no way to tell whether a party member isn't readying up because he's changing his build, or because he's gone AFK to get a beer. Ok, this isn't such a minor change, but it's pretty necessary.
-It'd be nice to have a way to set weapon group BEFORE entering a match.
