I'm trying to get my efficiencies raised for the Raven class in general, and I'm having problems with the 4x, mostly due to the hardpoint allotments - ACs are too heavy to put in a mech that light and still have any other weapons in there.

So I'm trying this build. It's really more a Vulture than a Raven - design purposes are to get in close to something that's already engaged and take advantage of any weakened or exposed armor. The build originally dropped the beagle for a higher missile load, but I figured it might be a good idea to have something that could spot better from a distance and have a counter to the ECM builds.

Thoughts?

Personally I didn't run the raven 4x seriously for the whole time I was getting xp for it. It was either lrm 20's or dual ppcs, or even the ac/20.

In any Raven 4x build, it's best to "accompany" someone as I've been corrected. Escorting implies you protect them; in reality you're using them as a meat shield to draw attention away from yourself.

Raven is mine.

My build is designed with the idea of brawling assaults. 100% or close to that is allocated to the front on armor. Never look away. Remember you can Jump over enemies and then shoot them in the back. Isolate enemies and engage them one on one or in superior numbers.

You triple your survival chances by hanging out near other assault mechs. Don't forget Murphy's 10th Law of Mech Combat: "Try to look unimportant. They may be running low on ammo."

Yeah, I've found that out in both the 4x and 2x - not fast enough to scout ahead when compared to other lights, so i stick with the main group and then circle around looking for distracted or weakened enemies.

I've fit a gauss rifle on the 4x, but couldn't bare driving something that slow, lightly armored, and without any good backup weapons.

Might revisit the 4x though to experiment some more....

Needs more AC20.

Use Xl195 ES, FF, with SINGLE heatsinks and as much armor as you can carry and you are the fastest AC20 in the game.

You're really not going to be a great scout in an RVN-4X. You're the largest light, and not that fast. the 4X is by far my least favourite Raven, but I would suggest http://mwo.smurfy-ne...15e2f67040528ee

I like this build because it recycles the XL210 from the stock 3L, which makes this a surprisingly cheap mech to create. You don't have to rely on streaks, so you can fight 3Ls head on. The best thing about it though is that you have a fair amount of hitting power, so if you stick with your lance, when they shoot the atlas their rear armor is gone instantly. Well, okay, the other best thing is that this configuration is highly modular. Currently I'm running this with 2x lplas, but mostly because they're the same weight as 2x ppc, which makes you a pocket poptart and easy to swap out. :(

ACs work, but see the rest of the rest of the sentence about fitting any other useful weapons in there. A single small laser is poor backup to my mind.

I was borrowing the XL210 from the 3L (It was doing double duty between the 2X and the 4X) and I keep running into heat issues when I tried the 2 LL method. (Although chainfiring might help with that) That and I keep feeling like I'm doing something wrong by ignoring 40% of the hardpoints on the 'mech. It's definitely not for scouting, that's the 3L's job.

Try this instead. More armor, more firepower, more useful range on the laser, and it cools well enough since you don't stand and fight for long periods of time. Also it's the only SHS build in the game that beats out the DHS equipped equivalent.

My Raven 4X is very similar to aniviron's build, except I have a XL245 and instead of SRM6 I have SRM2 + 2 MGs.

The bad news about the Raven 4X is that you're a vulture. You can do very little on your own, as your low speed means that people will leg you as soon as they get their eyes on you. So you need to rely on teammates to damage your targets and preferably let your teammates get all the attention, while you casually deliver a few alphas to the body parts that have been stripped of armor.

Occassionally, you'll run into a tasty morcel, like a PPC Stalker that got separated from the team, and you can just jump on it like a hyena on a baby elephant.

The large lasers are useful because you don't want to get too close at the start of the match, when there are no wounded targets for you to ambush. My tactic for the Raven 4X is to snipe with my 2 Large Lasers at the beginning, and when things start to open up, when I see a weak target, I'll swoop in and finish it, before flying back to safety.

Good luck!

Alistair, did you sacrifice the Jump Jets to fit all the weapons in there? I can't see another way to get all those weapons on the chassis with the engine that large. (That's one of the reasons I went with the MPL instead of larges - I like having some actual flight capabilities)

the RVN-4X is one of my favorite mechs. Please meet Wild Turkey:

Alistair's Raven 4X "Magpie"

Well, I only have 2 jump jets, and I'd definitely like to have more. To be honest, I'd drop the MG's in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the fact that one MG stays on the model even if you don't have any MGs, and this bothers me.

Without the MG's, I'd probably have something like this.

Nice. I'd like it a lot more if it had SRMs instead of the SSRMs, even if it would be less effective.

That's a great loadout to punch through armor for the MGs. You'll be very happy when the May 21st patch hits

None. No user configs either. Also the person who took the shots has none as well. Slight brightness, contrast, and saturation changes to the screenshots themselves. Techniques most of which you can do simply with your monitor. There's also some graphics card hex file tweaks. Details are all here, check out Lordred's posts.

I really enjoy my 2ML, LRM10 and 2 MG setup with endosteel, ferro, double heat sinks. 2JJ

I also enjoy my 2 SPL, LRM10 and2 MG version " "

I have tried onewith an AC2 but it turns out you really got to use only 1...2 ac2 just isn't as sexy as i would like. cause when you have 2, you really want 3..and two is just so lackluster....

Just a note: The reason anyone feels they have to use SweetFX is because nothing above medium settings actually work in the game. They won't until "a few months from now," as Bryan Ekman said in ATD 36 for high end optimizations, where he essentially admitted that "there's a lot of work to do to allow higher settings, DX 11 alone won't make much of a change." Higher res textures don't exist for most things yet as you can tell by this shot by the same person.

Btw, check that thread out every night. Any time Lordred is on it or I'm actively in there and posting, we're out taking shots and requests.
