I can barely wait for the Stalker and Highlander, I wish to try my hands at those.
EDIT: Slight tangent, but a Hunchback with a TAG in place of the small laser can be a very nasty surprise.

my fav thus far ( nd if memory serves correctly ) light mechs is my fav - i enjoy scouting.
i was able to get into an atlas in my week of playing the closed demo - it was far too slow for me.
i have a cat armed with two er pcc - i find that boats cost way to much to run.
do the math - it takes about 30k to repair a mech, and about 30k to rearm a boat
the average payout i have been seeing as a free player is 80 ( around 60k for a complete failure and about 120 for a 'flawless' win )
running a boat would put me in the poor house - and its doesn't really take any skill what so ever to 'get a lock'.
no - the challange is running up on a heavy, and circle of deathing until team members can arrive.

And by the way, getting a lock takes no skill I admit, but the real skill of being a boat is keeping in positions where you can hit enemies without being subject to direct fire, avoiding enemy scouts, choosing your shots based on where and how your friendly scouts are moving, keeping cool when enemies start to hit you, etc. In other words, it is all about tactical positioning, and not about twitch reflexes. I really respect people who are direct fire gauss and ppc snipers though.

Not the one to take on the brunt of the enemy force, but I'm usually in the thick of it.

Someone suggested a DRG-1C build with an ERPPC, a SRM6, and a LB-10X. I'll be sure to try that one out.

To summarize the incoherent sentence above, heavy duty and defence||assault.

I'm flexible in my roles, sometimes scouting/spotting for our artillery, sometimes maintaining close fire support for the heavies by swatting off the lights.
I'm also no stranger to strategy, and like the command features that PGI has worked into the game. If a lance is willing to work with me, I'm willing to work with them and call out tactics and targets.

I'll be found either escorting the big heavies, or being one myself.
hunchie, cent or atlas.
Currently waiting for something with a bit more dakka.. like the jägermech.

I almost always get scouting bonuses while LRM'ing the bad guys.
A 32kph, 100 ton scout.

New to the RRF or actually, to MWO. Expect me creeping through the enemy's back yard calling targets and tagging in my Commando: "Lappuggla". Late game becomes tag, harras and/or base cap/defend. Might stick with the pack providing ecm services when required.
Plan on running a spider too when i get my mando's sorted.
oh, guess that means i voted light - scout.
How do you want your Kavalleri today, Sir?

An aggressive assault oriented mindset seems prevalent among the FRR mechwarrior class.

Alternatives are heavy close-range autocannon mechs for assault and heavy LRM-packing mechs for support, with an occasional medium-sized scout-hunter and commander-scout.

Streak cat -> LRM's
ECM mechs->counter ECM and brawler
Just look for whatever everyone is complaining about, run it, learn what kills it, then continue with mastering chassis again.
