My current mouse is on its last legs. Does anyone have any advice on what mouse I should get (or avoid)?

Corsair M95 or M65, depending on your budget

Look for something with on-the-fly sensitivity changes. Also, being able to independently adjust the x and y axes is beneficial, (note- in MWO the y axis is scaled more sensitive than the x axis). I find anything with less than 7 buttons is too limiting, but that's more subjective. Button layout is important, cause a lot of multi-button mice are not functional in practice since it's impossible not to unintentionally spam inputs. Best bet is to take others suggestions here and try to literally get your hands on the likely candidates to check them for physical feel, since our hands are all shaped slightly differently and whether you're a 'claw' or 'palm' guy etc... I don't have one yet, but will be getting a Cyborg RAT 9, although the RAT 7 is likely more practical for most applications, and it might be what I actually end up with.

Logitech mice are generally the go-to mice for something dependable. The G500 is generally what gets recommended in these thread. The Corsair mice seem decent as well. The M65 is nice, but it's pricey.

Stay away from Razer peripherals, period, and while the RAT mice used to be great, Madcatz, a company long notorious for low-quality products, has taken over their production.

I use a G700 with my laptop and a G9X with my desktop, both work equally well in MWO. The G700 would be my suggestion, however the cord is a bit stiff because it's not braided like the G9's... but I use it mainly in wireless mode with the laptop. I run between 5 and 6 sets of weapon groups with the mice depending on the mech.

Seconded. Stay far, far away from the RAT series until they fix their products. Nobody should pay premium prices for sub-par junk.
Also, are your hands large, medium or small? do you hold your mouse in a claw or do you drive it with the palm of your hand?
My recommendation would be to go to a PC store and ask to hold their mice. play with it for a while and see which one feels best.

I get semi blasted for this everytime, but my go to mouse has always been the razer naga. It's a bit on the pricey side, and the software for razer products is utter garbage, but the mouse itself is absolutely wonderful. It's also insanely easy to bind the thumb pad to any game since the keypad works off the 1-= or numeric keypad [vs logitech mice, which apparently people have a substantial issue binding]

Sure, the naga and a few headsets are the only things they manufacture that are worth half a darn, but if you can get used to the thumb pad it's WELL worth the investment.

G400 is one of the best mice on the market. Has better tracking compared to G500 and up, doesn't really matter for this game as there's no twich aim required, any mouse that works ok will do, maybe get one with a lot of buttons, the G400 only has a couple extra ones.

Greetings all,

I would recommend the Logitech G700, which offers on the fly DPI adjustment, as well as wired/wireless when ever you want it. The DPI can be set anywhere from 200 to 5700DPI. with 5 settings programmable.

Look here for the tech spec's.
http://logitech-en-a...,2,4,5/cl/ca,en

This is a mouse that was designed for gaming and shows it in the comfort and precision of the design. I like the rechargeable style as it allows wired or wireless depending on what you want or need. Even has LED's to show you where the charge is and what profile you have loaded.(and what DPI is currently set)

I have had wired and wireless mice before and have to say this style and model, is the best. No more need to have a supply of AA or AAA batteries sitting on the desk ready for that "mid game" battery failure. And the gaming grade lasers (2 of them) are very effective. Additional note, the "profiles" are stored "on the mouse" not on the computer, so if you take the mouse anywhere your settings go with you. (that's great)

I use the "on the fly change" DPI for MWO driving (1200DPI) then "tap down" to 200 for sniper use, and on and on, works great.

The wireless is "full speed" 1000 reports per sec, so as stated very precise.

Here's a you tube review if your interested.

Good luck in you choice,
9erRed

Any mouse will do.. even the wired only 3$ pile of junk.

A 75$ - 100$ + with software is pretty sweet though I must say. Do some research and go to the manufacturers web page, if they look jenky then don't buy it.

Logitech is a good one to start, Razer or other gaming companies such as Mad Katz prices are inflated because of demand.. but they do deliver results in most cases.

Go hands on and find one that fits your hand well also. Everyones hand is different and no matter what we tell you it may not be comfortable for you.

I've had a lot of mice, many expensive ones, but I have to disagree on the quality of the Cyborg RAT series. It surprises me that they're as good as they are, compared to other products Mad Catz puts out.
I've owned the RAT 9 (wireless) and found it lacking due to the battery life. Not even 1 day on a battery. Otherwise, excellent.
Sold that and got a RAT 7 (same, but wired) and it was amazing. When the RAT 7 MMO came out, I sold the 7 and bought it. The MMO adds a lot of extra buttons, an even better button layout--incredibly easy button access without just stacking buttons like a numberpad. It will adapt to whatever size/shape you need and after getting used to the thumb buttons and the horizontal scroll, you may not be able to imagine going back to another mouse.
The horizontal scroll also makes a nice throttle in MWO. The mouse button "lock" buttons can lock down your button to keep machine guns going without holding the button down (if you play that way) OR you can download their tool to turn the lock buttons into 2 more regular programmable buttons.
This line regularly goes on sale on Amazon & Newegg.

In fact, it's on sale on Newegg right now for just $80, that's $50 off.
