I'd love to have two throttle stops, one at full stop (0% throttle), and one at walking speed (67% of max throttle). These stops would require you to release and then re-press the throttle up/down key to go beyond them.

E.g.
From a stand-still, you press the throttle-up key. This can take your throttle to a max of 67%.
You release and re-press the throttle key to be able to put your throttle to 100%.

Or reverse:
From 100% throttle, you press the throttle-down key. This can take your throttle to 67%.
You release and re-press the throttle-down key to be able to put your throttle to 0%.
You release and re-press the throttle-down key to be able to put your throttle to 100% reverse.

To not inconvenience people needlessly, this should be an option so that those that want to could have their current stop-less throttle (or even the weird push-to-run throttle that inexplicably is the default setting).

While I don`t generally disagree w/ the basic principle....

Exact throttle control is already available on the Numpad, and new players that use throttle decay would essentially be nerfed into never running, only walking, until someone explains this mechanic to them.... Not so sure how well it yould play out w /joysticks, either.

Furthermore, it reduces the "fine tunability" of the throttle control via W+S keys.. as It stands, I can decelerate 2kmh or so in an atlas (from full run to 97% or so) to accomodate for lancemates that don`t have 360s but only 350s, and that would effective be eliminated completely...

Therefore, I see a great potential to break more than it would fix, and must vote no. :)

*edit* Did not initially see the "should be optional" part. If it`S optional and selectable in the way decay is, I have no problem with it. However, it would have to automatically deselect the decay option, and on teh flipside I don`t think having 3 different "throttle mechanics" is such a good idea in principle, most games just have walk /run and that`s already too confusing for many....

Changed vote to "abstain" :)

Yes, to make it absolutely clear: It should be an optional feature for those who want it.

I completely understand that the stop-less throttle is much more efficient - hell, I ride the throttle in my lights like it was a ... well, best not go there.

This is just a suggestion to have the equivalent of "military power" on modern fighter jets (max speed without afterburner), or "cruising speed" on a ship if you will. The thought came to me in part from the observation that most 'mechs run full-tilt almost all the time, and the suggestion someone else made in a thread about collisions that you shouldn't be able to be knocked down if you were going at walking speed or less.
