This is the story of one of my more interesting drops in my new QD's.
We dropped on caustic.
Everything seemed fine until I realized there was only 2 Kuritan pilots in total.
Me and one enemy.
This would be a fight were I had to prove my superior combat skills among unknown faces.
When the battle started around the middle of the map, I decided to calmly engage from a distance in my QD with two large lasers - taking well placed shots at the enemies I saw and opening on.
Quite some time passed with the two sides slowly shooting at eachother lile this, but with noone really dying or being badly damaged, perhabs this was also why we suddenly had an Atlas walking into our midst!
Now everyone knows that an Atlas is a massive monster, often sporting equally massive firepower, and safe to say my QD would not live long in front of the behemoth that was walking towards us.
This was why I decided to fire up my JJ's, drop down behind him and unleash a hell consisting of 2 M lasers and 2 L lasers on his back which in return was quickly cored - however the big guy must have been focused pretty hard on my team since he just calmly walked onwards towards my team who were all scattering like sheep in front of a wolf.
Now being behind and Atlas and having a good chance of taking him out seems like a good thing right?
But no... my heat was now rather high due to the map being caustic... plus I had the entire enemy team on my six after my daring move - which btw I would not recommend doing unless you think further ahead than ¨AHA! CORE THE ATLAS FROM BEHIND!¨ Because not shortly after realising my position, I started recieving damage on my rear armor and in an attempt to move out of the way I quickly accelerated my mech and ran towards my team.
In the meantime however I saw the Atlas slowly turning towards me, perhabs realising that I was there since his teammates targeted me...
The situation was grim...
However a true warrior never gives up, so before he could align his weapons, I fired up my trusty JJ's once again and just like that I was on the other side of the lumbering giant once again - with a clear view on his tasty backside which in return was quickly blown apart by another alpha of mine.
Now seeing their Atlas fall must have caused something to go through the heads of the enemy team because shortly after I had their full attention and was hunted more than a duck doing duck season!
I had PPC's, LRMS, Lasers, Gauss and AC's flying around my head, forcing me to dodge and dance while twisting my torso and engaging and disengaging my JJ's until I finally made it into cover along the ridge of the crator.
Now needless to say, such a daring move is pricey and sure enough my left leg - which mind you is where I was storing my ammo for my LRM10 - was cored and dark yellow almost orange and to make matters worse, my left torso and center torso was also cored but luckily still a healthy yellowish colour.
Oh and I almost forgot this but my right arm had also decided to go AWOL...
All in all I had lost 3 heatsinks, one large laser and an arm plus most of my armour but in exchange for an Atlas though, so it was not the worst trade possible - besides I wasnt quite done yet.
This was also around the time when I realized I had forgotten to put my modules on this mech...
Yes I had no seismic so I was literally cored and ¨blind¨ to boot.
Luckily I had competent allies and one of them spotted a daring QD who was making his way towards me, trying to flank me, however he had an open leg.
I quickly realized that if I didnt take him out before he realized where to shoot me then I would risk dying before he did, so the moment he stepped over the hill I was ready for him and with one quick move I ripped his leg away underneath him and switched focus to take out his other leg - which still had some armour on it...
In return the enemy QD fired at my leg, I guess he had spotted one of my weak legs before I got into cover and thought it easy to kill me that way, but lady luck would have it otherwise as he targeted my healthy right leg over my left leg and was barely able to make half the amour fall off.
The situation was looking better now as my lasers went off cooldown and I unleashed them all on his other leg and again lady luck was on my side as my competent ally who had spotted the QD blasted most of the armour off the leg while my lasers where on it, which allowed my lasers to rip the remaining armour off and also explode what appeared to be ammo stored in his leg - causing a massive explosion and knocking the QD out for good.
Now 2 kills in the QD-G and during its virgin run none the less. Not a bad start.
But the battle was still going on and knowing this I quickly turned around only to spot a Jaeger moving in on my ally who had saved me twice already.
Now as Kuritan pilots I know you are all most likely aware of this, but still, I take honour very seriously and I was not about to let the enemy Jaeger take out my newest friend!
Therefore I quickly targeted the Jaeger to make my ally aware of his position and fired my LRM10 only to smile as the target data came up on my screen, showing me his side torso flashing red as if it was almost gone!
However my ally was a Stalker and as you might be aware those things are slow at turning around...
Like really slow...
And yes, there he was, slowly turning to face the enemy aswell, sadly though, moving into my vision as he did so and as such making it impossible for me to fire on the Jaeger.
All hope seemed lost and the Stalker was almost sure to drop...
But not if I had anything to say!
Almost as an act of defiance I fired up my JJ's and dropped in between the Stalker and the Jaeger, turned my left side towards it and heard the roar of 2 x AC20 as he fired right into my left arm, which in turn flashed and was stripped completely of armour!
Now as you may be aware AC/20's have one small weakness, the time between firring!
This I was fully aware of and as such I swung my mech back to face him and unleashed my lasers, all 3 remaining lasers that is, on his side torso as he was slowly trying to turn away from me - just not fast enough as his side was blown out clean and the Jaeger fell over with smoke rising from the side.
This was the time I realized that the Stalker and I were the only 2 people left on our team, plus we were against an Atlas and another Stalker on the enemy team who were slowly making their way towards us.
Things that day just kept getting better and better...
However showing no fear my ally advanced towards the enemies and I quickly followed up on his six, keeping my healthier side towards the enemies as we closed in.
Words can not justly describe what happened next, but I will try.
It was magnificent! A battle between 4 mechs, a battle like none other!
The two Stalkers went head to head, missiles flying across the crator followed by lasers strafing across the massive boats as they slowly walked straight for eachother, neither of them giving an inch to the other!
Meanwhile the Atlas had spotted me and thought me an easy target - most likely since I was running a badly damaged QD.
However I proved him wrong as I charged towards him and JJ'ed above his PPC/Gauss shots, causing them all to hit the ground beneath me! and as I landed behind the lumbering giant I quickly turned to face the Stalkers and managed to shoot off most of the armour on the nose of the enemy Stalker which was in turn taken down by my ally and his many lasers.
Now we only had the Atlas left, however that guy was one healthy Atlas...
To be exact he was at 80%...
Not the best situation to be in when you have two badly damaged mechs.
Still we did not cower or falter!
Instead we both turned to face the mighty behemoth who in turn must have been afraid since he missed my Stalker friend completely, firring all his PPC's and his Gauss right past the blimp of death.
Lady luck was truely smilling on me that day as that gave us exactly 4 seconds before one of us was sure to be in trouble...
Now what do you do in a situation like this?
Face him headon?
Try to core the big guy who is still at 80% armour?
Try to leg him?
No.
You use your JJ's and your wit.
And as such I jumped high above him, dropped down behind him and the Stalker and I unleashed an alpha each on both sides of the mech, shattering his resolve aswell as most of his armour and internals.
Now standing at bright red in the center torso, both in the front and the back, he fired off another alpha right into the leg of my Stalker ally, smashing it into tiny bits as smoke started rising from the now destroyed leg!
This was now all or nothing, but somehow I felt like the Stalker deserved the last hit on this monster that ate his leg, so as such I held back my shots and the Stalker unleashed another alpha on the overheated Atlas who exploded in a massive explosion as the center torso was blown apart.
We had won the day.
¨What happened to the other Kuritan pilot?¨ you might ask.
Well to be fair I have no idea what happened to him, he could have been anywhere on the map.
He could have been the Atlas who walked into our team without fear.
The QD who wanted to kill another QD as he saw him weakened but was in turn blown apart.
He could have been the sneaky Jaeger who decided to flank two mechs while carrying the massive death AC's in his arms.
He could have been the Stalker who showed no fear and attacked my ally headon in a duel like none other.
He could also have been the Atlas who took on two mechs alone in a final last stand.
Or he could have been any of the other mechs that I never met that day.
Your guess is as good as mine.
One thing I know for sure though.
That day, many respects were paid to a lone bright red QD who took on an army with his trusty Stalker sidekick and triumphed!
