Here is a possible variation for the Canyon Network map. Imagine the sky is black due to an approaching thunderstorm that is dropping heavy rain and flashes of lightning. All the lower levels of the canyon are flooded; the waterline would almost completely submerge a BattleMech. This would give new meaning to trench warfare!

so want this as an alternate, the map would play VERY differently, and the bases may need to be moved based on the flooding.

it also would be cool to have lights like the jenner and spider actually be submerged... talk about how crazy that would look <_<

If I can submerge my 6 PPC Stalker up to the cockpit and play hunter-killer submarine, sure why not <_<.

Do not want. Just had a major flood where I live that could cost up to $5 billion to fix/rebuild. Last thing I want to see is more water, especially when related to "flooding".

This would be frickin awesome, especially if the water was really deep so lights and mediums would be completely submerged (i.e., really slowed down once environment conditions get into the game).

Did they ever fix water acting as a missile shield for lights?

Also, would need torrential rain and lightning ambient effects.

They could do both nighttime and daytime variants.

in most cases the water areas are so open, flat, and small that it is not a concern, but if we flood the whole canyon system then it may be worth paying attention to.

I still vote no, but that would be pretty damn cool if you had to mount torpedoes instead of regular missiles and JJs didn't work in the water (if you fell in there could be a very limited number of ways to climb out).

Oh no, you're giving me flashbacks to the MW2 Ghost Bear mission that was underwater in with torpedoes and PPCs. Worst mission ever.

There should also be a big storm going on with lighning and heavy rain and so on.That'd be so cool. :P

I like the idea.

Sounds like a cool idea. I see only one real flaw. It is a large canyon, enough flood water to submerge a Spider is likely moving with enough force to wash away an Atlas foolish enough to attempt to cross.

Excellent! I can see the Assaults (Me included) sliding back down the edges in the thick mud World War 1 Style. This would make jump jets all the more important and instantly create choke points at the bridge areas (Ideal for Snipers like my Atlas). I think your vision should go ahead as soon as possible. The storm effects alone justify it; just think, we are off world, so why not make the Planets electrical storm create a medium EMP effect that will temporarily cripple ECM, Beagle etc.

Very much this. Referencing the massive flood that just happened where I live, there were cars floating away and the water wasn't much past the door-handles.

i think i remember seeing somewhere that in reality an atlas should float on water based on it's weight and displacement.

That's what I was thinking. I want the developers to add ambient weather to some maps.

I did the math on this when people were arguing about volume vs tonnage in a thread last month because all the realism guys busted out the "Yeah well how do you know what's in a 31st century death machine, buddy!" line; but the fact of the matter is, we know the size and weight, and even given conservative volume estimates on the atlas, it would float in water.
