The first type of XP is mech XP. In the mech stats in the game, you can see it growing in XP after every match (they are filtered by weight class) in the tabs (I forget the exact method to look at them, but if you dig hard enough, it's not hard to find. Select the middle tab at the top of the screen, and you'll see efficiences and what not. On the right side of the screen are small pics of mechs that differ in size (they are pics of mechs in the weight class, Jenner indicating Lights, Atlas being Assaults).

Find the mech in the list that belongs to that weight class, and "expand" the list by clicking on it and you'll see all the variants and the XP you have gotten for them. Those have a brighter color are mechs you own/have.

The second type of XP is GXP (General/Global XP). You want to save this SOLELY for pilot skills. Try NOT to use it for mech efficiencies (pay attention to the buttons that pop up if you're able to upgrade a mech's efficiency). GXP gain is ALWAYS 5% of whatever you get for XP from a match. This is valuable, but very slow to grow.

GXP can be used for anything, however it is the only thing that can be used to unlock modules for purchase off of advanced markets. GXP is your pilot's personal experience. Think of it like being someone just starting to get into cars evolving into someone who does his own tune-ups, and eventually discovers things like nitro boosters. That's modules. You can find this page under Pilot Lab, Pilot Trees. You can buy the modules later in Mechlab - Modules.

"XP" or "Mech XP" is the experience you earn using a specific variant of a specific mech chassis. This is your personal know-how for using the mech. Like with a car, after you own it for awhile you start to learn little ways to improve it. Adjust the steering a bit, remove a few obstructions to allow your mech to cool faster, enhancing the computer to weapon range convergence rate, the list goes on.

You can reach this page just by hitting Pilot Lab, Mech Trees. Then on the right choose your weight class, then chassis, then variant. You can buy upgrades with GXP or MXP. It's ideal to get them with MXP, as GXP is very slow to be earned.

Edit: As you can see in the second picture the unlock I'm looking at costs 6,000 XP (MXP or GXP). Because I have 5,377 MXP (located upper-mid-right), only the GXP option is available.

Also on the right you will notice the variants are listed in 3 colors (4 total, greyed out means you don't own it). Blue means no unlocks or basic unlocks only. Green means elite unlocks or that elite unlocks are now available to that variant. Yellow means the variant either has master unlock available or is mastered completely.

When you have 3 mech variants (i.e. HBK-4P, HBK-4SP, HBK-4H) of 1 mech chassis (i.e. Hunchback, shortened HBK). with their basic unlocks completed, you will have elite unlocks available.

When you complete the unlocks of elite in at least any 3 mech variants of any mech chassis within 1 weight class, Master becomes available. So you could have say: "1N, 1C, 5N" variants of the DRG (Dragon) chassis. Or you could have 1 Jagermech variant, 1 Catapult variant, and 1 Cataphract variant (they're all heavies), each with Elite unlocked fully, and then Master would become available to you.
  • So basic to elite, there must be 3 variants of the same mech chassis.
  • Elite to master, there must be 3 variants to any mech chassis of the same weight class (3 lights, 3 mediums, 3 heavies, or 3 assaults).

Yep, Kon probably needs to be made a community Mod. Useful to have one that both plays and has a clue about the game.

Eh, while I won't say no if asked, there's plenty of people for that. Besides I'd probably get notifications of threads being reported and have to go investigate and read people ranting about this or that being wrong and clean up while remaining politically correct.

I'd probably never get my ATD questions answered then, too, because answering them might be playing favorites. Not that I've had them answered in quite a while -- but the first time I did ask I got what was, 6 of them, answered back to back in a single ATD? So I can't complain either. Still looking forward to airstrikes being powerful enough to warrant a mechanic like shooting down the bomber so my Jagermech can be the anti-air it was meant to be.

Edit: Eek. Forgot to say I am a bit flattered by the suggestion.
