I remember reading in the "Ask the Devs 44" that there was mention of making some changes so that PPC's and Gauss don't fire at the same time.
I have good reason to believe that PPC's will be getting this treatment. PPC's will be getting a change that will make them fire as if you had a missile bay door over them that had to open for each shot, essentially adding, let's say, a .5 to 1 second delay. Gauss rifles have enough dangers for using them as it is: They're much heavier, take a lot more crit space, they're very volatile weapons (easy to explode) and require ammo to use, thus I doubt the change will come to Gauss rifles.
I feel like a lot of the current weapons feel pretty good (Pulse lasers I think still need some tweaking IMO in the form of range, but that's a more personal opinion than one backed by any amount of data), but PPC's remain largely popular despite their heat increase and inclusion of alpha limits. Their speed of the shot feels fine, it just needs a small delay to make it more of a skill shot weapon for long range. A .5 second delay when a mech is up close won't be as bad (exception to light mechs, they're just hard to hit anyway, but this might give them some extra help as I've noticed lights getting their legs insta blown off up close by the double ER PPC+Gauss combo).
Anyway, just some thoughts I feel like I should share.
