But how far, should they take a true HardCore mode? Lose your 'Mech? Lose some of the equipment?
It'd be quite a risk, but can't be implemented, 'cause that would lead to C-bill and salvage farming via fake/new accounts...

HC could work if accompanying a repair delay (or also include R&R) on 'Mechs used vs instant repairs (part of the old "Dropship mode"), but could be used for a 'Campaign mode' mechanism.

Hardcore could be a high risk high reward system much like Diablo 2. Also, ladders.

Just so everyone knows: Hardcore Mode is greyed out underneath the Launch button on the upper right corner of the UI when you click the "choose your game mode" button to the left of the Launch button. There's Assault (Hardcore), Conquest (Hardcore) and Any (Hardcore). In Hardcore Mode, no player can use 3PV. Only 1PV is allowed.

No need to get carried away about the many meanings of a "hardcore mode". In this context it's just a request for a 1PV queue by launch.

I really want hardcore mode...but I hope it includes more challenges than just FFP. (non double armor for example).

Maybe hardcore mode will be the stock mode I dreamed about in my sleep.

There wont be any "hardcore" modes unless you play 12v12. 3pv is a tremendous success with the community and here to stay!

It has gone a long way to unify the majority of the Forum...

PGI, credibility, get some....

1) Due to public outcry in closed beta, PGI states there will never be 3rd PV
2) PGI backtracks and states there will be 3rd PV, but with an option to play hardcore that is restricted to 1st PV
3) PGI implements 3PV, but backtracks on hardcore mode saying it is not necessary, and posts a rambling apologetic http://mwomercs.com/...te-and-apology/ , which is mocked on several gaming sites.

The total lack of credibility on this issue alone, not counting multiple other issue, is a clear indication of the lack of "good faith" in PGI's interaction with this community.

If you are expecting R. Bollocks and P. Inureye to actually follow thru with 1PV hardcore mode, you have not learned from history.

Yes, I'm going to invoke Neveron!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was technically "hard core", in that you could lose almost everything, and at any point.
I wouldn't want to see a hard-core mode like that in MWO, but IF there was a side-mechanic that'd allow for salvage - at the risk of losing your 'Mech (with some concessions), it'd be a nail-biting experience.

I absolutely wouldn't advocate that it be the ONLY mechanism... but if there was a mode - set aside with a separate 'stable' and equipment storage, possibly separate queue too: Assume anything from Solaris 1v1, to 4v4 Covert Raids, to full Companies (assuming there'd be enough people for various modes)... we'd have something a little like Diablo's HardCore mode.

There'd have to be a balance to expense, of course; probably through using House Rentals until someone's gutsy enough to drop in their owned units.

Anyway, that's my impression of a real Hard-Core mode. Anything less is not HC but rather just "hard mode". Semantics, I suppose.

hardcore mode should be a separate garage where once a mech dies you lose it forever. In return the winning team rolls on any salvage they didn't destroy and gains it. Every part salvaged must be repaired using Cbills.

Eventually nobody will have any money left to play hardcore mode and we can just drop the idea.

and 3 loses in a row due to the "newbs" or "damned lag!" and your garage is emptied out

Although that could make PGI a lot of money if you could buy back in to hardcore mode. $20 gets you a random medium mech and 500,000 Cbills to try again!

And if only the good play it then the best make the merely good look bad. And then the bad lose their mechs.

And then they have to pay $20 to buy back in for another chance. It's like gambling, only everyone eventually loses and there is no cash out.
