no

you only need 3 to level up a mech, want stuff easier? PAY FOR IT!

between the "i'm founders serve me all goodies on a platter for nothing" threads to "grind is too hard PGI stop being evil give me more stuff NOWZ" {too many of those threads to link} you wonder how this buisness is viable. so many people feel playing games are grinds and too many things are too hard to earn or P2W. the lazyness and greed of some people here who in all proberbility will turn round and say "i got 100 trillion cbills and all the LP and all the mechs i ever want so why should i play anymore?" is exactly why pgi aren't handing you the whole game for free.

seriously grow some and start EARNING your perks!

Yes, they should. ~6-8 free mechbays would be nice.

No, they won't. They like your money too much.

4 allows mastery of 2 mechs, at 300MC its not a lot and if you get them at the right time its even cheeper

I definitly want my money/mc back, if they increase the number of free mechbays. The pricing is fair for the mechbays.

Four is fine, quit being cheap and help support these guys.

Awesome sales pitch.

Hey, how do you know they haven't spent money on the game already? The OP even said he has 28 mech bays or did you forget how to read?

The game in its current state (no CW or UI2.0 yet) 4 free starter bays works fine. If you want to tweak it a bit make the next 1 c-bill unlockable (say 1 million c-bills) and a 6th bay unlockable with GXP (no c-bills cost but in any other way very much like how modules are unlocked now). This route allows up to a max of 6 bays unlockable via in game activity (meaning for a true f2p player can have 6 bays free of charge) and if setup properly this system would introduce both the c-bill economy and the pilot tree module unlocking feature to new players. And this is how I would tweak the mechbays in the games current state.

Now if and when UI2.0 and CW show up I would personally tie the 5th and 6th bays I've described here with tutorials that would walk new players through both the c-bill/mc economy, and another which would explain the pilot tree and the modules thus covering the GXP/XP economy both of which could use the 5th and 6th mechbays as the rewards for use/completion.

I'd also plan a CW intro tutorial if I was PGI which would award a very small stipend of MC (which could also tie to the purchase of a 7th mechbay via that stipend - i'd make that mechbay a one time purchasable option for a new player say 50MC.

So in the long term with UI2.0, CW and a robust tutorial system in place I'd personally allow a player to receive the first 4 free with signup, and 3 more through the tutorials for a max free total of 7.

Should be increased to six, twelve is way to much..but as this has been asked for several times and been ignored or considered and rejected, and not been announced, your unlikely to get any official reply.

Only way they could infact increase to twelve, or even six bays, would be to increase, the pricing of everything else to claw back lost revenue for those bays.

Very few people can't actually afford to shell out for extra mech bays even if they don't spend a penny anywhere else, most players are over 20 most of the founders are over 35.

Anyone that owns a car, pays for cable or satalite tv, owns a mobile phone, or a laptop/notebook, and uses wifi, bluetooth, can in the vast majority of cases afford to spend out on a mech bay or two amonth they just chose not to make it a priority.

Now I'm sure I'll get I'm a poor student, (do you use the colledge bar), I have seven children (i'm surprised you have time for computer games) I'm divorced (were you the sinner or the sinned apon) and I can't afford it replies, but those replies come from people (not in the students case if living in halls) paying for an internet connection, so are they really sure they can't.

I'm still a kid living at home, the answer is My daughter is getting a subscription as part her birthday present for a free to play game, because she chose it rather than have somthing more solid, which is her choice.

My choice this week was shall I buy Mc or shall I buy a couple of magazines, and a book

I am okay with 4.

I do like the idea of being able to earn some more for free.

How about you get one extra mech bay when you Master your first Mech of each weight class (4). That way you start with 4 bays and can have a max of 8 free bays.

If you get that far along and still won't spend any money, the game either isn't for you, or you are a very cheap person (not that there is anything wrong with that).

Here's an idea, lets say you have the 4 basic slots and they are all filled with Hunchbacks. Now you want to start mastering new mech classes but you're out of room. You go to buy an Atlas and it gives you one free slot but the rest you have to get yourself for each Atlas after that.

Basically, you get one free slot for every new class of mech you buy. So if you don't have any Atlases and you buy it, you get one new slot, if you don't have any Victors and you buy one, you get one new slot.

People will still have to buy at least 2 more slots on their own to elite or master any of their mechs.

It's not that hard to buy one of every chasis using C-bills. Of course, you have to grind for it. But there's nothing to stop you from getting tons of mech bays for free.

As a side note. I've never bought a mech with MC before but I think they should come with their own mech bays. i.e. one free mech bay with mechs purchased with MCs. Unless this is already happening.

Sorry but bad bad idea. Basically with that system you would never ever have to buy another mechbay with MC unless your a collector/OCD type who JUST HAS to have every mech shaped pixel the game offers. There's what now 30 or so models of mechs in game currently? That's 30 free bays just buying one of each chassis, and what's to prevent simply buying one of a chassis you don't want to drive to simply get the bay, then sell the chassis and use the bay you wanted in the first place.

Far better in the long term if PGI at some point puts a couple of mech bays that are in game unlockable within the players grasp. Though I would not do it until CW is in game as placing the additional mech bays would be to extend a new players free experience in game to increase the habit forming dynamic. Once CW is in a true long term goal for players to strive for is in game, which should increase the numbers of people trying MWO, and if done correctly a robust tutorial/mechbay unlocking system should help retain those players through the first purchases phase of the players retention cycle.

4 is enough. Mechbays are pretty much the only appropriately priced things in the game. If you are enjoying the game enough to fill up those 4 bays you are enjoying it enough to pony up a few dollars for more bays. All MC mechs should come with a bay however.

Hey, do you know how to generalize on a public forum?

This was against his suggestion.

His suggestion was made for the public to see.

My counter was for the public to see.

Or did that concept blow your mind?

You're saying there are so many people that are going to buy every single mech in the game? There's also over 90 slots they'd have to buy in order to elite or master them. You buy a new mech, they give you one free bay. I'm pretty sure for what they are charging for paint, this won't put them out of business.

Have the bay tied to that mech. You sell the mech, the bay goes with it. That was easy.

blahblahblah...but I feel it can become a wall to people who are interested in the game but come up against this and then walk away.

You mean people who are so interested that they play long enough to buy four 'Mechs, weapons, items, modules. They would have spent tens of millions of credit bills already when they "hit the wall" and you claim it's not enough?

Players that own 4 'Mechs (that's 3 more than any average Mechwarrior in the Inner Sphere owns) have to pay MC for more bays.

Dont really care.
I would remove system forcing u to buy 2 chasis u mostly dont even want to play instead, then 4 would have been plenty!

I would love to have more than four free Mech bays; as you know I am still running as F2P, but I am also a realist and fully understand that PGI have to make money somewhere, in this case via Mech Bays. From my point of view, I am almost ready to take the plunge and buy some MC specifically to buy a few more Mech bays. I need them for a Locust and of course the one unit that I have waited a long time for; The Flea.

Or compromise:
Stack variants of single chasis to one garage slot.

I always thought 6 felt "right".

But then again, if you already have 4 full, then you probably already know if you like the game or not (unles you bought 4 commandos with your cadet cash). Is the price of a Double Whopper, fries, and a coke REALLY too much to ask for another 4?
